Hypothyroid, and taking Fluoxetine - how can I lose weight?

Hi, everyone. I'm a new member. I really need to lose about 2 stones, but am Hypothyroid, and despite being on Levothyroxine, I'm still just as overweight as I was pre-diagnosis. I also suffer from Depression & have to take Fluoxetine, to keep me sane, but, guess what- anti depressants often cause weight gain as a side effect. So, basically, I'm really, really struggling with losing weight and beginning to despair. Has anyone else got similar issues and if so, have you found a way around them? Advice would be much appreciated.

Hello. I was diagnosed Hypothyroid about 5 years ago and take Levo daily. I am also extremely anemic due to heavy periods. I have some minor depression/anxiety as well but I can function for the most part and never took meds for it. I was pre-diabetic and diabetes runs rampant in my family so I began my weightloss journey about 3 years ago, lost 43 lbs and have maintained a healthy BMI for 26 months. I lost most of my weight by hiking and power-walking but now I maintain by running pavement and trails. I've never been athletic before in my life until now in my 40's and I absolutely love running! My advice is don't give up! When I first began, it took me 3 weeks of diet and exercise to lose a single pound! But once my metabolism was jump-started, the weight came off steadily. Most days I feel like I have to work *double* to achieve just *half* the gains someone with a normal thyroid does! But it's so worth it! I also find that running really helps my mood and decreases my depression/anxiety. Get your vitamin D levels checked too, I found out I was very vitamin D deficient and felt better once I supplemented, no more SAD (seasonal affective disorder) during the winter! The anemia affects my athletic performance because of having less red blood cells to carry oxygen, but my doctor also got my iron levels back to normal with supplementation so if I stay on top of that, I feel ok. Talk with your doctor about what your goals are and how best to achieve them, that's very important. Don't let your medical conditions define you, there's much more to you than that! You just have to find creative ways to work with what you've got and don't compare yourself to anyone else's achievements. I always say that the only person I am in competition with is myself! Another thing I did was cut out a lot of refined sugar and flour, that stuff is terrible for thyroid-related weight problems and try to get more natural sources of iodine into your diet (I love those little dried seaweed snacks) to give your body what it needs to be its best. Good luck!

Oh my gracious , check out the Candida diet. Also find rice protein Detox powder. Do the powder 2 or 3 times a day. Holistic doc. Or chiropractors can get the powder. Do that for 3 to 6 months, you might be able to go off your meds for thyroid0

I am also on fluoxetine for depression, and I have gained 25 pounds since being put on it in December. I am struggling as well. Hopefully we can figure something out. :-/0
