Everytime I try to close out my diary for the day, I am not able to because I'm eating less than mfp thinks I should. I am eating what my doctor instructed. Is there a way around that?

Has your doctor instructed you to eat less than 1000 calories a day?!

Why has your doctor recommended such a low calorie level? Do you have some major issue that requires you to drop you weight quickly?

Don't close your diary. Everything will still be stored.

Don't close the diary. I forget most days now that I am at maintenance. If you're eating what the doctor is telling you, and you still feel fine, then don't worry about it. if you don't feel fine eating that amount, tell the doctor. They are not always right.

There are doctors out there who will put patients on very low calorie diets for no good reason. That is why the question I asked before. Without knowing the reason why, it is difficult to give any advice. There are good reasons why the minimum calorie goal for female is 1200 and for male 1500. Going below that is not generally wise, nor will it bring long term success.

    This reply is like:
Post "When I try to cut my arm the skin won't tear"
    Reply: "Use a sharper knife"

    ....

Your doctor can't have possibly advised you to eat less than 1000calories a day. And if they have you shouldn't listen to them! This is absurd!

Sure a doctor could have. If a person absolutely needs to lose weight for a surgery or to live they are often put on very low calorie diets under doctor supervision. However, there are a number of doctors who have gone after VLCD using various things to try to suppress hunger which is simply a reflection of how many doctors have no real idea on nutrition or weight loss because they are simply not extensively trained in it.

In no way am I encouraging unhealthy behavior.

People do IF. People have gastric bypass. There are many reasons that someone might have (at least some) days lower than 1000.

New users don't always understand that the info will still be stored even without closing the day.

The MFP block on closing low calorie days has two consequences: no 5-week prediction and no sharing your day's result on your feed. It does not prevent recording that day's intake. That's MFP's choice, not mine.

No, you can't change it. Just don't close out your diary.

No because MFP doesn't support very low calorie diets below the 1200 recommended minimum.
You can eat and log the minimum of 1200 calories or not ever hit the complete button.

Thank you for the replies. I am considering a gastric sleeve, and am in the 6 month preop insurance diet. I have also been prescribed Phentermine, in an attempt to avoid the surgery.

I quick add caloriea in to make it reach 1000 ao I can still see the projected weight loss (it motivates me becauSe since my calories are actually lower than that, i should lose more.) and have it post on my feed.

Ok, that explains the very low calories. I am assuming it is meant to prepare you for the very low calories that you will be stuck with once you have the surgery. As stated the reason you cannot close out your diary is because 1200 is the generally accepted minimum for an adult female. I hope in this phase they are supplementing your nutrients with vitamins and minerals as under 1200 it is difficult for a woman to get sufficient nutrients without very careful planning of meals, and under 1000 I am guessing supplementation would be required.

My diary let's me close out between 1000 to 1200. The only time it won't is if I am under 1000. Am I missing something? (btw I don't eat 1200 calories a day I just was playing with my diary and seeing where you get the warning and I only get it below 1000 cal).

Also OP, and anyone who may ever be in OP's position, listen to your doctor first, the internet second. MFP members should not be telling you to go against what your doctor says.
