Ooo going to join this, I've been trying to do this anyway this week but I keep falling a bit short
Tues - 7062
Wed - 7376
Thurs - 8582
Fri - 7690
I've only been wearing my counter when I go for a walk, so I'm going to start wearing it all the time & also try to increase my walks distance, so far it's been just ~2.5 miles, so I'll aim for 3 & see if I can't hit the 10 000 mark now!

You want to wear it throughout day to see your activity. It all adds up. Running errands. Cleaning house. Helps you be aware of your activity and adjust. I add steps throughout day if I am lagging. Such as park in back and force self to walk across parking lot. Step in place while waiting on something like microwave. If evening come and I didn't hit 10.000 I make self step in place during commercial if I am chilling out watching TV1 -

Really unsure of what to think right now. For the last couple of weeks I thought I'd jump in the bandwagon and try and track my steps. I looked at getting a fitbit but couldn't justify spending a couple of hundred dollars on one. I upgraded my phone recently and it came with an app, that tracks steps, called lifelog. Awesome I thought, the only thing is I have been spending the last 12 months trying to distance myself from my phone and have gotten into a great habit of not having it attached to me 24/7. I have noticed that the app doesn't track all of my steps for example if at the end of the day I wasn't happy with how many I'd taken then I would walk on the spot to make it up (as I've read alot of people do) but for some reason the app doesn't register that movement. This week I bargained with myself and allowed myself to buy a pedometer, only a $20 one but I had read somewhere that this particular brand/model were pretty good. So today was the first time I used the pedometer and I tried to make sure I had my phone in my pocket almost all day. I've tested the app before by walking 100 steps and then checking it's count and it's for the most part pretty spot on but like I said earlier it doesn't seem to register small steps or walking on the spot. This morning I tested the pedometer in the same fashion, I walked 100 steps and the count was only off by one or two, then I walked on the spot for 100 steps and it was pretty close also. However I think it might be too sensitive and was maybe counting extra steps for times throughout the day for example I was kneeling on the bed while my daughter was jumping on it and I could hear the pedometer clicking over.
Anyway sorry for the long post but today my phone registered 6061 steps while the pedometer registered 13044. That's a huge discrepancy.0 -

I tried using my phone a few times with an app but it always under counted. I had done the same as you checking it for 100 steps and would usually do ok but it would always be low compares to any step counter I had on for the day.
It sounds like you have one of what I call clunky step counters. They make a little clunk every time they count a step. When those are new I found them fairly accurate. If you move enough to make it clunk it will count another step. For me if I am moving I am ok if counts another step. I use my step counter to hep me keep moving through out the day.
I like the electronic step counters. You can buy them for between $15 and $30. They are usually accurate and I do not need to carry my phone. My fav is the New Balance Via Slim. It will pick up smaller steps and running in place.
For me my step counter is an important part of my daily activity so I have bought a couple and have worn them for a day or two and counted steps in my head for different activities and then checked them. Sometimes I would find one that was way low or way high. For me the worst one has been an app on my phone.
Hope some of this heps

Thanks heaps for the response and yes it does help alot. I went back and had a look at the instructions lastnight and it turns out I had the sensitivity setting set to the highest instead of the lowest on the pedometer. So I've adjusted that and feel alot happier with how it's been counting today. I'm going to try and get in the habit to open the case while I sitting down or driving my car as it is designed not to be able to count while open.
Thanks again
