Hip Pain After Walking

Yeah, so I walked for a little less than an hour and a half this morning at a pace between 3.0-3.5 mph, and I just got a random sharp pain in my right hip a few minutes ago. I haven't exercised much at all in a few weeks, but it is hard for me to believe that I had pain after just walking.

FWIW: I am a 22 year old female who is 5' 4" and 163 pounds. Is it really normal to have an issue like this?

Thank you!

If you're not used to it yes

I assume bilateral and not a strain

Stretching and rolling is called for

Ibuprofen and heat / ice if too bad

I always get hip pain after walking - maybe try the elliptical? It's usually a bit kinder to your joints. Otherwise just work on strengthening your muscles in that area (your hip flexors, adductors/abductors, glutes, hams, and quads, etc) and make sure you STRETCH! Ice right after your walk if it's really bugging you, but otherwise put some heat on it tomorrow. If it persists maybe check in with your doctor or physio/chiro/massage to see what's up!

I used to and it turned out my hips were uneven. I'm seeing an osteopath at the moment for this and he is helping a lot. If it continues get it checked out.

Thanks eveeryone! I got some insoles today that are so far comfortable.
  • More than likely its normal however if its something you are worried about I would seek a doctors opinion.

Rest for a day or two and try it again. If it's something that persists go see a doctor. I developed bursitis in my hip and it hurt like the devil. They gave me shots in the hip that didn't help much. I had to let it heal.

Stretch after every walk. It really does help if you do it consistently.
