Need help/support

Hello all, I need help please. I am 51 years old and I desperately want to lose weight, I just lack motivation. I try and stay active, I like to backpack and hike, but I keep gaining weight. I went on a backpacking trip last weekend and when I looked at the pictures of me from the trip I was completely disgusted seeing my fat roll over my hiking pants. I've avoided the scale for a long time then I finally weighed myself this morning and imagine my disgust to find out that I weigh 177 lbs!. I was completely in denial. Just a little over 10 years ago I was running marathons and weighed 135 lbs. I went through a very painful breakup and I stopped running and started gaining weight. After my daughter left home I got back out into the world and started biking, hiking, and backpacking. I have had a great time and met some wonderful people but I can't continue to ignore my weight. I have to do something. I also have a very stressful job and I tend to eat when stressed so that can also be an issue for me. Would appreciate any support/encouragement you could give. Thanks

Well you've already started getting active so that's fantastic. Just use the app to track your calorie intake, it helps me think about what I'm eating therefore I tend to not eat rubish snacks. I've found I'm eating cleaner.
Stick with it you will soon see results.

Hi! Good for you! I bet your body loves you for being so active.

I’m 55 and a no-processed-food vegan. I’ve been pretty sedentary the last couple of years. I find it’s hard to keep my weight where I want it eating a vegan diet unless I also keep track of calories, Which is a pain … but I like the results! I just rejoined the gym after a two-year Covid hiatus as my weight was sneaking up. I’m also one of those vegans who has a hereditary tendency to elevated cholesterol… So I follow a no-processed-food, low saturated fat, vegan diet. I really like the longevity diet, which is also the name of a book by Valter Longo, but I realize it’s not the diet for everyone. (My partner is a meats and sweets person!) I know it sounds too easy, but calories in, calories out works for me. And keeping track of the calories using MyFitnessPal helps me recalibrate my hunger. When I know my body has had enough for the day, I’m getting good at ignoring the fake hunger pangs.

I’m happy with my 55 year old body. I just wanna stay healthy until I’m really old. :) #liveto100
