Lifting books?

Can anyone recommend a great/the best book for beginning lifting? Ideally short and straightforward. I'm female if that matters. Thanks!

Generally I would prefer to lift weights instead of books but if you're doing home workouts I get it. You have to use stuff from around the house.

And old fashioned family Bible is going to be good for your basic compound lifts but if you're a complete beginner probably best to start with an unabridged dictionary. maybe some paperbacks for accessory work. An encyclopedia set is good for progressive work.

Starting strength is a great read... very technical, though.

You might enjoy Strong Curves or New Rules of Lifting for Women as well.
