I weighed my salf at boots and it gave me height, weight and body fat percentage.i used an online calculator for maintenance calories so I entered my body fat% height e.c.t and it gave me 1660 calories a day ? This is very low ,any recommendations for a more accurate calculator ?

Are you sure that wasn't giving you your BMR...your BMR isn't maintenance, it's just the calories you burn existing on this planet and nothing else.

What are your height, weight, age, and activity level.

It seems low but for all I know you are a 3'8" 68 lb 75 yo sedentary man.

How tall are you? I'm a 6'0" female who works a desk job and it says my TDEE is at almost 1700. Did you try this calculator? http://keto-calculator.ankerl.com/
    That's where I started.

    I'm on 1500 to burn 2lbs a week I'm 5foot 8 inches, muscular and 211 pounds.
  • I found a calorie calculator and, unless you are fairly short and small, 1660 looks more like a Basal Metabolic Rate.
(BMR for a man, mid-30s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds is 1677, according to the one I found.)

As cwolfman13 said, BMR would be the calories you'd burn if you were in a coma.

And I'm 5ft 2 and my TDEE is 2200 so you see...1660 is most likely your BMR.

I used the calculator you linked and my BMR was 1500 and maintenance was 1650 ,I lift weights 5 times per week for an hour ,would that be classed as sedentary or lightly active ,I also do a personal training course so I am mainly on my feet during the day,if I switch it to lightly active it increases by a fair amount.

the only factor that you might not be accounting for is your activity level and what kind of workouts you are doing for fitness. I'm 5' 3" and I have a desk job so my calculated calories tends to be pretty low BUT it goes up somewhere between 300-500 more calories when I account for my workouts and extra activities. I'm personally at a deficit right now for weight loss and I'm also doing a ketogenic diet. I tend to eat less calories doing ketogenic diets just because of how filling the foods are but that has nothing to do with the calculator. Don't know...does the calculator you used ask for an activity level? if so what is yours?

Are you around 5'3" and 130 pounds?

also caloric intake changes as your bodyfat and lean muscle percentage changes. For example....if you are working out but your bodyfat% is pretty high, then your maintenance calories will be different (lower) than if you are working out with a low bodyfat percentage simple because higher muscle mass requires MORE maintenence calories than higher bodyfat percentage.
Which is why alot of trainers suggest frequent re-evaluation of the numbers (every 3-5 months or so)

(Jasper) I weight train 5 times per week I include a mixture of strength for compound and medium weight with high rep with cables and machines ,I also have to participate and teach circuits and spin twice a week for my assessments.

(Jemmhh) the read out of the machine (boots) was 52kg and I'm 171m (5ft 7.3) but the weight seems ridiculous I have a small frame but I look normal not malnourished ,I will weight my salf at the gym tomorrow the scale at boots may be broken ?

I'm not sure what Boots is as we don't have it around here. 52kg is 114 pounds. You would be very thin at that weight and 5'7". Definitely re-weigh yourself.

honestly if you work out with weight training 5 times a week for an hour PLUS an additional training then I would say that is moderately active not light. If you are doing weight training on the ketogenic diet you should use the calculator I use. It is a little more detailed and specific to weight training. It asks for your daily activity level but also gives you a SEPARATE option to put in workouts.

Do you mean you are training to become a personal trainer? If so, I'd use the scale wherever you are training. I'd imagine that one should be accurate.

Check your maths - I'm 5'8", above average muscularity and lighter than you. Taking into account my very sedentary office job (although I work out 4 times a week) I maintain at about 2500 and lose weight at about 2000.

I think you are short changing yourself out of 500 or so calories.

UK Pharmacy founded by Jesse Boot (hence the name). They invented and developed ibuprofen - Advil in the US.

Stop using calculators, stop worrying about activity levels and exercise burns.

Pick a sensible number, set a custom goal of say 2500 calories, accurately log intake and track trends in weight.

Adjust as necessary depending on real world results.
