Who eats bread and who's scared it will wreck you physique like I am? I had a 60 calorie pita today and wanted to kilo myself (not really but was depressed)

I eat bread most days and have done in the past and lost weight. It's not bread that made me put on weight it was cakes and chips and being lazy. Just pick a healthier bread like wholewheat rather than white bread.1

Bread isn't the problem. Eating bread (or anything) that puts you above your calorie goal is the problem.1 -

I just had an 80-calorie low carb tortilla, and tonight I'll have a regular flour tortilla (I think it's about 130 calories).2 -

No, just no. Eating more calories than you burn adds fat. I can't eat whole grains and am low fiber so I eat white carbs every day and am not fat.1

Sure to a certain point. If we are talking people who don't exercise and eat let's say 1500 calories a day. The body burns 1,000 a day with no extra activities. If someone eat's 6 slices of white bread which has a high glycemic level, that glucose level is going to spike and it's going to add fat. If you are working out then it won't have an impact if you burns enough calories for what you just ate. It also comes down to a person metabolism0 -

No. Your body can't add fat if you're eating at a deficit (or calorie level to maintain). Bread, even high glycemic bread, doesn't change how energy works.

That's if your eating at a deficit. I assumed we are talking about a regular person eating not at a deficit.0 -
I eat bread daily... depends on what you buy... if you buy something with no nutritional value that's what you'll get. If you buy whole wheat, high fiber, low calorie... that's what you'll get.
But I've always liked wheat better than white so maybe that's just an added plus for me.0 -
I eat bread pretty much every day. White bread, even, because that's what I like.

Dude I have eaten bread almost daily and if not bread at least some kind of carb like white pasta and flour tortillas. I still lost 40 lbs because I was in a deficit period. That is how the body works.1 -

If you're a regular person, eating at a calorie level to maintain weight, then bread isn't going to make you put on weight. Your body can't store energy unless there is excess energy to store.1 -
It sounds to me like you need to work on your psychology. The moment you start demonizing foods, having food aversions, or feeling extreme guilt, is the moment you start on a dangerous path of disordered eating. How do i know? I've been down that road myself.
I advise you to either slowly let these reservations go by slowly incorporating them into your diet (while losing weight) to "disprove" these fears to your rational mind, or to speak with someone who can help with this.1 -

To clear things up... It was a 60 calorie pita I used to make a pizza. The breads macros 2g fat 9g carbs (4g fiber) 6g protein. Joseph's Bakery brand. Very easy to make that fit my macros but I haven't had bread/pizza since August '15, so it was a mental struggle to convince myself to eat it.0

I am down 23 pounds. I have peanutbutter toast M-F for lunch everyday. I am a teacher and I only have 20 minutes for lunch. It's filling, low in calories (230), and who doesn't love peanutbutter toast!?!?!0

I think it is exactly like you say... a mental thing. But if it is YOUR mental thing, it is your thing that gets you off track, then avoid it... just don't get so down on yourself when you do indulge... I promise.. you will still fit in your pants tomorrow = )0

I've lost 108 lbs and have eaten bread every week. Bread is something I don't miss terribly so it isn't worth the calories to me (chocolate is another issue) but the local restaurant we go to every Friday night has amazing bread so I budget for a piece. I enjoy every single calorie. I also found some low cal (40 calorie/slice), regular thickness white bread recently so can get a 213 calorie grilled cheese in every once in a while.0

I would definitely suggest talking to someone that can help you work through any food phobias you have. Bread will not make you fat. A 60 calorie pita will not make you fat. That is less calories than a slice of bread. Bread is not the enemy.0
