How do I estimate calories burned doing an exercise video?

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to eat better and get in shape these days, and MFP has been a big help. But I'm at a loss for how to account for exercise calories. How do you estimate calories burned from doing an exercise video? I do the "Jillian Michael's 'Ripped in 30' " videos (mostly the advanced versions, and at this point I'm happy to say I can pretty much keep up the whole time!) and I input 250 calories into MFP, but I have no idea if I'm even in the ballpark or not.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

To be completely honest. Theres probably no way to tell. But my recommendation would be what i do. I dont log my work outs because it adds the calories to my intake for the day and if you want weight loss you really shouldnt eat back your calories but since working out can make you extra hungry try not to eat back more than 50% of them. So if your goal is 1200 for the day but you worked out hard and ate 1300 if you dont like going over add a cardio work out for 100 cal. Thats what i do.

That's a good idea, thanks! To be honest I don't know a lot about the whole "to eat back workout calories or not" debate, but that is a good point about not eating them back for weight loss.

Log as one of the aerobics categories I would suggest for a rough estimate.
MFP is designed for you to eat back exercise calories as they aren't accounted for in your calorie goal whether you are aiming to lose, maintain or gain weight.
Everything is an estimate so after a month re-evaluate based on actual results.

    Worth a read....
