Is the total calories for me to lose fat and maintain muscle automatically configured by this app? Or do I need to create a caloric deficit by diet and/or exercise?

It's automatically figured in dependent upon what you chose. (2ppw, 1ppw, .5ppw)0

The amount given to you is already at a deficit to lose weight. To maintain muscle, you still need adequate protein intake and a progressive resistance training program.0
