PCOS struggling

Hi, I'm 33 and just a hair under 5ft current weight is 171. I've only managed to lose 8lbs in the 9 weeks since I've made this lifestyle change. I'm having a hard time watching two girlfriends lose 24 to my 8. I'm hoping that it's just a slower process for me. I workout for about an hour a day. I sometimes do that whole hour on cardio or I'll do 30-45 min cardio and then strength. I'm hoping I don't have to cut carbs because I've already made such a huge change I'm just not ready to give up on carbs. Most days I'm under my calorie count, and I have a really hard time eating breakfast. I also know I shouldn't be getting on the scale everyday but I can't help it. And then my struggle hits if I'm at all bloated. (Like today) it says I'm up almost 4lbs which I'm hoping is a result from crappy eating and drinking last night with a couple of girlfriends. I'm hoping to hear some other users success at losing weight with PCOS and how they did it. I'm not taking any meds for it and I don't really want to go that route either.

1 lb. per week is excellent, so keep it up.

Don't need to eliminate carbs, but reducing them (under 50% of calories) does seem to help with PCOS. But fat loss ultimately requires a calorie deficit.. for everyone. Weighing foods on a scale helps with accuracy in tracking.

Weighing yourself every day is fine as long as you understand that a gain in fluid weight (from sodium & carbs) could be masking a loss in fat weight. Makes sense?

Lots & lots of prior posts on PCOS, so exploit the search feature. The sticky posts have good tips too. :+1:

I was at 230 because of pcos and had to be put on metformin and now I'm down to 172. It is very frustrating because it does take a long time to lose weight. What used to take me two or three months to lose now takes even longer but at least the weight is coming off. Small victory that means that my doctor might take me off some other meds that were due to my weight.

Do you weigh all of your food with a food scale? And I mean ALL. If not, you are likely consuming more than you think.

Yes, I weigh and measure my food. Meat salad fruits nuts everything. I'm usually a couple hundred calories under a day anyway.

I was 260, I'm now 198. I'm losing about 1.5/week on 1200 cals. I don't go crazy with carbs, but I don't intentionally limit them. I've talked to my endocrinologist, who didn't recommend it since I was already losing successfully and I don't have blood sugar issues. My daily intake is usually around130g, though around 150-170g once or twice a week. Not on metformin.
Also, increasing strength training really helped me improve my figure. I'm carrying excess weight more proportionally now.

There are mistakes that people commonly make that cause them to not lose weight that we might be able to spot if you change your Diary Sharing settings to Public: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/diary_settings
