What if someone were to go over maintenance on let's say Sunday and then throughout the next two weeks they ate at a deficit to lose 1 pound and then the next day they went over maintenance again and repeated this cycle , would everything just balance out ?

How far over maintenance are you going? If not too much over, and you accurately weigh and measure to determine a deficit the rest of the time, you should have no problem.0

I mean Like in theory if you had a complete day eating high high calorie foods like I'm talking waaaayyyy over maintenance like thanksgiving or something maybe even worse and then the next day you went on a deficit to lose 1 pound and you did this for let's say 2 straight weeks and then the day after you had another thanksgiving like feast0 -

I'm wondering if this would work because the thing is with me if I'm going to have something unhealthy then I go all out instead of having it "in moderation" and then I'll be rigid with my eating for weeks and I did the one cheat meal a week thing and that works for my rigid weeks because I still stay within my calories , I just don't want to generate an unhealthy binge or anything like that , I'm wondering if I can eat to lose for a couple of weeks and then have a splurge day and then eat right and lose and then splurge while maintaining and possibly losing weight depending on how many days I stay under my calories0

If you are running a caloric deficit for the week then yeah, you still lose. The problem with an all out day (speaking from experience) is when I would have one I pretty much ignored portion control and just went for it. So my caloric deficit all but dissappeared in one go. I find what works better for myself was to up my daily caloric intake to be more satiated and raise my activity level to compensate. Large binges kind of scare me as I have problems keeping it limited and it tends to train my body to want to binge more frequently, thereby sabotaging progress made. Everyone is different of course, and this might work okay for you. For me moderation is key.0

@chelseyperry735 is this kind of what you were thinking about? Check out this IF way of eating and its pros and cons. It is a way to eat more and less so your calories for the week come out about the same. It does work.

It just depends on the number of calories. Something like Thanksgiving you could go 2000 cals over maintenance or 5000, depending on what you eat and drink and in what quantity. If you ate, say, 3500 calories over maintenance in one day then went on a 500 calorie per day deficit for a week you would maintain for that week. If you only go 1000 cals over then you'd still lose (but not as much), but if you go like 5000 cals over you will likely still have gained. You still have to know the calorie intake to know which will happen.0
