Subject basically says it all. I'm trying to plan tomorrows meals but i'm getting super frustrated because we don't have anything healthy. Everything we have is boxed and easy to make as i have alot of siblings. Mum refuses to buy healthy foods just for me when the rest of them don't care about their health and are willing to eat junk food.

I don't know what to do , I've talked to her about it but she won't give in and help me. I'm thinking of just eating the things she does buy but then that leaves me way below my calorie intake and probably in starvation mode. How can i do this healthy when we don't have the right foods? Destined to be fat forever?

I know you said you've talked to her, but try again. Try to show her that eating healthy can be a good thing for the entire family and that everyone could benefit from it. My mom used to be the same way but we've talked and she tries to balance getting healthy food and junk food (for the kids).

    Good luck!

any way you can buy your own food? even if it is just a small selection of healthy things to supplement the stuff that is already in the house. it is hard for sure when trying to eat healthy and no one wants to join you in your house.

Do you have a job, or any source of income on your own? You can eat your mom's food in moderation and supplement with some things you buy, if you have any sort of income, such as fresh fruits and veggies, protein powders, etc.

If not, talk to your mom. Some people think healthy food = EXPENSIVE. This is not true! You have to be smart about what you buy if you're on a budget, but eating cheaply AND healthy can be done!

Can you offer to help cook family meals? If your mom has to feed a bunch of (picky) people on no time and a short budget, boxed foods can seem very appealing. If you put in some time, maybe she'd be more willing to accommodate you.

my mum is exactly the same! End of the day you just need to take it into your own hands, do your own food shopping and cooking. Ask your mum if she'll pay towards it - my mum pays for my healthy food, but only after I eat it to make sure I actually use it!
And even if she won't pay for it it's not that expensive to feed yourself.

It's shockingly common and that is why Jamie Oliver is taking it as his sole mission to help educate the masses.
Nearly every family I know eats bad but until they suffer a eating disorder or health problem linked with poor diet they are not going to change. I'm sorry but it looks like you are going to have to spell it out to you Mum that eating healthy is very important to you and if she refuses to buy healthy food then can you request certain (cheap) replacements? I use TVP or soya protien pieces. It swells in water, easily flavoured and replaces minced beef. Things like red lentils and carrots can be cheap and will make lovely nutritious soup, in season fruit and veg, call in store a little before closing time and grab some marked down produce?

My family is the same way. I don't have a job and healthy food is expensive. I just eat a lot less than i used to but pretty much the same stuff =/

My family leaves it up to be to go buy my own healthy food, and I don't find it more expensive either! Fresh fruit here is waay cheaper than frozen processed foods. Healthy bread costs the same (or pitas), buy lean meats on sale, etc. You definitely learn to be creative, that's for sure.

Definitely talk to her but this time see if you can brainstorm a healthier eating grocery list together with her using the budget she has. Offer to go shopping for, plan, & cook a few days worth of healthier options for your family. It's more work for you in the beginning but she might just need someone to set a good example and show her how it can be done. See if you can find another family who is successfull at buying healthy food on a budget and ask for advice. Be encouraging with your mum, planning healthy meals might be completely new for her and she just might not know how to get started and keep on a budget. If she still refuses then you'll have to start buying your own groceries, you are not destined to be fat forever!!

Offer to cook for your siblings as well as yourself?
