Weighing food

If you want to hit your goal weight you will need one. The closer to your goal weight the more you need to be accurate with what your eating. I think it's funny that you won't use a scale but measuring cups are fine, lol. Good luck with that.
I love mine and I know exactly what I am eating and I can eat more doing so.1 -
I lost almost 40lbs without a scale. I measured everything with cups and spoons. If you find you aren't losing by measuring that way, you can always go just below the full measurement or underestimate your exercise calories burned. So...overestimate food a bit and underestimate exercise (within reason). But I did workout a lot and eat a lot of salad.0

So if I am understanding you correctly, you are saying you don't have a kitchen scale and are assuming you hate weighing food because you have never done it?1 -
Eyeballing will only get you in trouble. Measuring cups are better than eyeballing. Weighing is better than measuring cups. FWIW, weighing is easier and faster than measuring cups (at least, once you get the hang of it), so saying you "don't have time" for something you haven't even tried is not going to fall on super sympathetic ears around here.
The fact that you said you don't have time and particularly that you're eyeballing a lot is a big clue to me that your issue likely isn't that you don't like weighing, it's that you're resistant to the very idea of controlling your portions.
If portion control is not in any way part of the reason you gained enough weight to want to lose it now, then measuring portions now likely won't make much of a difference. That's not true for most people though.
Nobody can make you control your portions. Nobody can make you measure. Nobody can make v you weigh. It's entirely up to you.
But if you don't measure your portions, please expect that in a few months when you post a thread saying that "I'm only eating x calories but I'm not losing weight whyyyyyyyy?" everyone will jump on you to tell you you're wrong to be so certain you're eating under a specific calorie number.1 -
alexisstoops wrote: »-Like I said, I was just wondering if it was possible to continue losing weight without using a scale. You don't need to post on this thread if you are going to be negative or rude for no reason.
You said:alexisstoops wrote: »I don't own a scale and don't really want to buy one.
You also said that you don't have time to weigh your food. You seem so dead set against the idea, what difference does it make if we think it's possible or not?
I apologize if my replies were too blunt for you. But really, your attitude seems to be "NO SCALES". You don't seem to be open to discussion about it. So.....

Weighing food probable takes 3 minutes out of my day. It honestly takes no time at all.
I did ok eyeballing; but I think it is much better to weigh.1 -

I think people who have never used a scale don't understand how user-friendly they are: how the tare function works, how easy it is to weigh multiple things at a time, or the fact that you completely avoid washing measuring devices. I also find that it takes me no time and that I'd far rather eat accurately than undereat by several hundred calories just to give myself a safety buffer.
This is exactly why I love my food scale so much. Before I got one, I was actually underestimating my portions and thought my hunger was all in my head. I was sticking to 1200 calories and eating back up to 25% of my exercise calories if I felt I needed it. I bought a food scale and a Fitbit; I couldn't believe how much I was actually able to eat. I was able to eat 1800 to 2000 calories per day to get down to 109 pounds.2 -

Yep. ^^This, a million times.1 -
Using the tare function, or just using addition a scale is actually extremely easy and quick to use as wall as far less dishes to clean. I wasn't a fan of a food scale until I started using one more often.
Either put the plate on the scale and tare it, then add the food, or for things like peanut butter and other messy things it is so easy to measure the whole container, take out what you need and weigh again to find out how much has been removed, no scraping out a tablespoon, no extra dishes. Using a scale right adds almost no time to food prep.0 -
You don't have to. If you're not losing, eat less. Just don't be surprised if you end up having to eat 'only 800 calories' to lose weight.
For me weighing is easier because it takes 2 seconds (literally) and I don't have to worry about guessing.0 -
I have a food scale and rarely use it. I use it for foods that I have to use it for...which is rare. Most people could get by w/o one..(IMO)I doubt the majority of people..have to be that exact with weighing food. I believe it helps more with their mind set than anything else. Unless there are people on here with very specific diets because of health(medical issues) or world class athletes..otherwise, if you have placed yourself on a reasonable diet, with a reasonable enough exercise program, you should have success with losing weight. Of course, it depends on your diet as well, and what you are cooking or not cooking, whether, you really "have" to use a food scale. They are no doubt helpful. Whether they are necessary..well..that is a personal preference.0

This is an important benefit for me. When I eyeball I err towards a smaller portion. I get more food when I weigh. My workout program is intense so I cannot afford to go too far under.0 -
I have weighed my food before and wasn't a fan. I also didn't like feeling dependent on it (why I dislike it the most). I realize it makes logging more accurate, that was never the question. I was asking if I could still lose without weighing. As of right now I'll stick to how I'm doing it and If something changes in my weight loss journey once I get closer to my goal, I'll re-evaluate things. Thanks for all the feedback.0
