My husband is taking for sushi today for lunch for our anniversary. I will just bypass the soy sauce--low sodium or not--but wondered if there was a "best" choice to make with the least amount of sodium/calories. I know I am definitely getting edamame... I love New York Rolls... Tuna Rolls... any pre-advice would be so appreciated!

I hate mayo and LOVE sushi. Stay away from California rolls, tempura rolls, mayo rolls (like crab salad types). Try to stick to brown rice if they offer it. Have a miso soup first.

I like unigai rolls, which I think do have avocado but don't have mayo or anything like that. You mention Tuna rolls, which I think is probably another decent choice. Moderation, sister!

    Happy anniversary!

nothing fried, panko crumbed, etc..Try and limit the amount of rolls you order with cream cheese filling.or avocado cals add up. Dont :not" eat those rolls but just try and get a good variety of limiting them. Soy sauce is a better alt then that thick creamy sauce or try and do no sauces. The sushi with the rice and just sliced plain fish atop limit that too. The rice is TIGHTLY packed and cals are high.

My opinion, It is sushi. the sea weed is a negative calorie. everything is natural sometimes organic. go for it. I wouldn't get the fried veggie plate for an appetizer and go light on the eel sauce it is the high empty calorie they have. you should be good though.

    Have Fun!
    Happy Anniversary!

I'm into low carb so I'd forgo the rice and get sashimi... maybe some salmon, yellow tail, tuna, unagi... and a yummy side of seaweed salad or baby octopus salad :) I actually had seaweed salad and taku su (octopus salad) last night and it was YUM!

Sashimi! It's just the plain fish, so it's going to give you nutrition without unnecessary calories. Avoid ones with sauces or lots of avocado/dairy, as those add up quickly. Use wasabi or pickled ginger to add flavor and limit calories.

I would be wary of an earlier suggestion to go for the miso soup. If you're trying to limit sodium that's not a great choice.

Lettuce wraps are good for an appetizer. Sashimi is definitely the best option for a meal, or, if they have it chop suey, without the rice.

Sushi in itself is generally pretty low cal. The rolls I've seen range from liek 50 to maybe 85 cals. Save up your cals for the day and eat as much sushi as you want.
