You cannot spot reduce, but you CAN lose fat all over and when your body fat % is low enough your stomach will be flat and/or abs will show.

The best exercises to strengthen your abs are called "core exercises". Planks are a great core exercise and will work all of your ab muscles together.

Contrary to popular belief - crunches are NOT good for your abs as they produce high shearing forces against your lumbar spine.

The best way to lose the fat is to do strength training, combined with HIIT style cardio and a very clean diet.

Hope this helps. No quick fix, just steady plodding and you'll get there eventually! Good luck!

Edited to add - don't forget to lift HEAVY WEIGHTS. If you stay away from all of the girly colored dumbbells in the gym, you should be fine. :)

It's not possible to spot reduce, and you body decides where you lose from. Cardio is the best way to lose fat, but strength training will start toning and muscle burns fat much quicker. Find a good ab workout, let me know if you need help finding one.

Abs starts in the kitchen. Besides eating healthy. I've didn't say diet, because I don't believe in diets. But, if you want to diet, then go for it. But, besides from eating, cardio and ab strength training, if you're not looking to tone your arms and legs.

There's three ways to get healthy abs or should I say, for people to see your healthy abs.

    1. Eating healthy. My version of healthy to me, is not depriving myself of anything that I want to eat. Moderation and portion size is the key.

    2. Slimming ab workouts. That's consists of doing twisting abs workouts. Billy Blanks is a pro at this workout.

    3. Strengthening ab workouts. That's consists of crunches both standing and floor workout, sit ups and and floor ab workouts.

Pilates ab workouts are good for the abs too.

Someone linked a great article about fat spot reduction and why it's not possible because of the way the body stores fat. If I remember it correctly, it explained that the body stores fat all around the body in a 'chain' type configuration, linking fat up in a long strand. When you start losing the fat it starts at the very end (where the fat was most recently stored) then works its way back from there. So essentially, the very first place to start to collect fat is the very last place you will lose it.
