The weight on the nutrition label is based on the weight before cooking. If you want/need to weigh it after cooking then choose an accurate and appropriate entry from the database that specifies it's for the cooked weight.

It's raw weight, unless it has a second label for cooked. I know some products do like Tyson tenderloins.
  • Thank you. So us the label usually for raw?
For example chicken? Does the nutrients stay same for cooked?

The label is for raw weight UNLESS.

Like I said, some companies put an additional label in the package for cooked weight, it's inly for people who weigh cooked instead of raw, that's the only reason... which is silly, but whatever.

And yes. If you weigh 6oz. of chicken raw (not frozen with ice caked on it, but thawed) and the calories are... let's say... 150, and you cook it, weight it, and it now says 4oz.... there's still 150 calories.

When food is cooked, it drops size and water, but still holds the nutritional values as when weighed raw.
  • Thank you martyqueen52 that's so helpful.
It threw me a bit as I cooked 50g of wholewheat pasta dried then looked at Label an the info was for cooked weight so I weighed out again when cooked an there was barely anything!!
    Thanks again
