I'm still trying to figure out if it's best just to go hardcore lose the weight quick and then focus on rebuilding all the muscle I will have lost. Because i have this image problem. i hate my belly and current weight (237 lbs, 5 foot 11)...its just getting so easy every pound that is lost to do more things in life in general i am addicted to the feeling of losing weight now for sure. Right now I have the time, motivation and ability to lose weight quickly...i know it will slow down due to lost muscle mass but i am able to do whatever it takes to get down to 200 quickly. I can reduce calories a bit and exercise even more. after years of being obese it is just too enticing to do it this way rather than wait and go slow while trying to preserve some muscle...this is driving me nuts thinking about it all day. What should i do?

Your heart is a muscle. Just something to keep in mind when you're thinking about going all out without regard for safety or health.
Thinking about rebuilding muscle makes me cringe. It is such a slow process.2 -
Ultimately which do you think will lead you to LONG TERM maintenance of a reasonable weight and physique?
Why do you think you will lose muscle?

Thanks. Well I think that getting the weight down a bit more even 20 pounds and then shift focus to strength training to maintain muscle while i lose the rest might be a compromise i can live with. I think long term that getting my weight down a bit more will be beneficial because i seem to be more motivated for both cardio and strength training the lighter i get. I think i will lose muscle because all i've read says that it's impossible to lose weight rapidly while maintaining muscle.0

why not both?

From my experience of doing this a few times and failing because I got obsessive with it. I'd take it slow, it's more like a lifestyle that a diet and the long term results are better. Plus when you're taking it slow your not thinking about food all the time. But obviously it's entirely up to you1

I've heard that losing muscle while cutting is a myth. Especially if you get enough protein everyday. I don't know, but if the body stores fat as food it's logical that the fat would come off first. I could be completely wrong so you should do some research. I've forgotten the articles I've read, it was a while ago. But I'm sure it was on lifting sites because I know I need to start lifting before I get any older.0

You can reduce the risk of losing muscle mass by lifting weights to preserve the muscle you do have, and by eating enough protein.0
