Hello. I am new here coming over from Weight Watchers. I am having a tough time getting out of the 'points' mentality, and calorie counting seems a bit overwhelming. But, Calories make much more sense to me. On the old Program, I had 36 points, and each of those are about 50 calories, which = 1800 cals. But here, I get 1580. Still figuring it all out.
I have a lot to lose, and need to just pick a plan and stick to it. I know this is something I can do for life, Calories will always be calories.
Anyone else come over from Weight Watchers? Any tips?
Thanks!

    Hi and welcome!

I have tried weight watchers over the years, with little success. This plan seems so much better. I have only had cravings a couple of times, but never actual hunger.

Once you get used to it, it is actually so easy!

I really like that it ties exercise so closely to your calorie needs. And I also believe that once I hit the proper weight (may take nearly a year), it will be a really good tool to transition to maintenance.

    Good luck1

Give yourself a little time to stop thinking about POINTS :) I find this program easier to stick with and track when I'm not at my computer. Calories are posted on most everything. Plus the database has so much more food in it! Good luck..

Hello! After years of WW, I've come here to count calories and really start losing weight. I know WW is great and works for a lot of people, but the points counting never seemed to work for me. I like this website, as you see exactly what you're eating, gives great tips and support. I actually got a hard time from a couple of people on the WW threads I post on, but the majority said "whatever works". I've already broken my plateau and feel a lot better, not as stressed keeping within points, and knowing I can do this. Take care!

I was on WW before Points Plus. I like MFP and counting calories because for me it is easier. I can look at the product and see the calories and don't have to do the figuring. I know that foods that are high in protein and fiber are better. I ahve gotten pretty good at guessing the calorie content of a food too - then when I look it up, I am usually in the ball park.

I quit WW for several reasons - one is cost. I would rather spend that money on gym time or clothes. The second is - if you don't have a good leader, you end up talking about the same stuff all the time, and then I felt like I was wasting my time. No one wants a leader who isn't at goal herself - what inspiration is that?

I like the MFP way of thinking and calculating your needs. I feel they are more accurate than WW - it was too generic for me.

    Welcom to MFP!

    Welcome

I also tried WW - several diff programs. Had a hard time with the Points counting.
I love this site - it traces all your calories (& fat/carb/sodium) and the foods are already entered into a database. So much easier.
The calories burned by exercise are also included in your daily totals. A big plus for me...

Enjoy you journey & add me on your friends --- :flowerforyou:

I did WW and lost 25 lbs in 1986. I even became a leader, but then I got busy, etc. and gained much of my weight back.

The food diary was the most helpful thing for me. I can do that for free on MFP and there's a huge community to offer support whenever I go on line. It's been working for me.

    Welcombe.

I did weight watchers after my son was born. We wanted one more but I did not want to be fat and pregnant again! The first time around it worked great, I lost 65 lbs in 10 months. The other three times I have tried it, not good results. I have tried other sites for counting calories but MFP is the BEST! I am not sure what it is about the site that makes you want to do good, probably all the wonderful people here, who have been where I am now and can help me out.

Glad you are here, feel free to friend me.

I started counting calories but now I'm on Weight Watchers.
I became waay too obsessed with calories and it didn't go well for me. I LOVE MFP, even though I'm using WW. I use them both so I can make sure I'm meeting my points AND still getting the proper macronutrients.

    Welcome to MFP!

I had lots of success on WW and (thanks to a note from my doctor saying that I'm healthy at 10 pounds over WW's max "ideal" for me) am a lifetime member. I switched to MFP a couple of months ago mostly just to see if I was eating too much despite following the WW plan. I was.

Transitioning away from points was hard, but for me right now, MFP is better than WW in terms of helping me keep track of--and manage--how much and what I'm eating. But I still go to WW meetings almost weekly and always keep in mind the guidelines and tips I've learned there over the years. I feel fortunate to have found 2 (similar but distinct) programs that I can feel successful with when it comes to keeping myself healthy and my weight under control.

Feel free to send a friend request.

the app is what sold me and being able to track on the go - you are right cals will be cals and there will be no massive change in this plan.

The big difference being you can't save cals for an occasion on a different daty - the only way is to up your excercise that day
