Why can't you keep a notepad if you care? Also, premium.

Because vit D is not listed on food labels

rude. We could all keep a notepad for counting and tracking. But since this is easier we dont.

This, and because food is not a good source of Vitamin D at all. The best is sun, but has to be balanced with risk of over exposure (sunscreen will block a good deal of absorption), so if you're low you are best taking a supplement.

Thanks for the reminder. I'm supposed to take a buttload of Vitamin D supplement and I keep forgetting. Whoops!

Take the vit D with fat or oil. It is absorbed better.

I'm D & calcium deficient too...trying to be better at taking my supplements. Unfortunately, in UK, not as many foods are fortified as in US. Bummer!

if you are going to supplement don't forget magnesium. the "conventional wisdom" of 2:1 cal:mag ratio has been debunked, but you need both - and vitamin d is synergistic.

as an earlier poster noted, take D supplements with some fats as D is fat-soluble. i take mine with fish oil capsules.

The body can only absorb so much vitamin D at a time so if you have to take a mega-dose, take it three or four times a day. Vitamin D and Calcium work well together so if you need to supplement both, take together.

Vitamin D and A are fat soluble vitamins so that is why often dairy is supplemented with these two.

My father in law takes that. I'll ask where he gets it. I take 3000 iu a day.

Instead of a prescription, my doc told me to take 8,000 IUs a day.

Same for me (except I'm on 5000 a day). Doc said the prescription D2 isn't nearly as effective as supplemental D3 because body doesn't utilize D2 properly.
