hi, haven't used mpf forums for at least a year, but i am getting my nutrition and fitness back on track using the app.

what i wanted to know is, what foods/meals are good to prep in advance that freeze well?
im currently making a few days worth of meals (pasta+chicken) (pasta+tuna+salad) and storing it in the fridge.

i know mpf is about eating what you want aslong at it fits your cals/macros etc. but i like having meals ready to go without the fuss of working out the nutritional info for each meal. i still log them and work the rest of my cals around my meals so i still get a few treats

I find that beans dishes stand up to the freezer very well, you can make them low calorie, and you can cook large amounts at a time. If you use dried beans, they can also be super cheap to make. Things like chicken or turkey chili (I use great northern beans or pinto beans) and black bean soup are my favorite. I make a HUGE batch and freeze meal size portions which I pack in my lunch or use for meals on weekends when we're in a hurry. Another good thing for freezing is taco meat. I make mine with turkey and add brown rice to increase the fiber and bulk it up.

I freeze chili and meatballs a lot. I had a recipe that was like chicken marsala, wasn't actually the name but similar. I sauteed mushrooms, added some marsala cooking wine and sherry, a can of cream of chicken soup, some rotisserie chicken cut up and a bag of spinach. Added water if I need to make it less thick. That froze good and I love the flavor. I found some good recipes on the mfp blog if you haven't looked there yet.

Edited: I should add that I freeze single portions, not entire meals for the family. It's easier for me to take to work that way and let it thaw throughout the morning.

I cook entire dishes on weekends: all different varieties of soup, chili, curry, stuffed peppers, stew, casseroles, meatballs, nuggets, burritos, meatloaves, etc and freeze them in individual portions. On each container, I label the date and calorie count. I've done it for almost 8 years, so in the morning I can grab and go and my family always has a healthy option to warm up in minutes.

Some things I freeze in containers, others I flash freeze, and some get frozen in jars or in ice cube trays. It depends on what it is.

You can absolutely freeze rice and pasta. Flash freeze it for best results. To do this, take your cooled cooked rice or pasta, put it directly on a metal baking sheet, and put that in the freezer. When it's frozen, put it all into a freezer bag.
