I'm a college student tempted my unhealthy foods and lacking exercise. I'm starting a new lifestyle with healthy eating, more sleep, and workout days. Any advice or encouragement is appreciated!

Just stay motivated. Add friends on here. It helps me having my food diary open to everyone so that way it keeps me motivated hecause all my friends can see what i eat. Being healthy and losing weight is 80% what you eat 20% physical and 100% mental. As long as you really want to do it you will and its not that hard like people think. And remember 1 bad meal doesnt make you fat or unhealthy just like 1 healthy meal wont make you healthy. Dont get discouraged. And we're always here to help.

    Hello and welcome! :)

I'll start by saying, if you ever ask about things on here, there will be critics! But take on board what they say! Especially if they have been here or at it for a while as they will mostly know what they're talking about.

I am actually in the same boat as you, apart from the student bit. I still live at home with my parents, and my mum is in charge of the food shopping so a lot of the time i have to eat whatever she buys, and because she works a lot, she is all about quick fixes i.e. ready meals or things that can be quickly bunged in the oven for 20 minutes. She very firmly believes healthy food is 1) too expensive, and 2) takes too long to cook. The only time i get much that's even remotely healthy is for the 3 days that my money lasts for after payday when i go to work and buy myself lunch.

All i can suggest food wise is to remove all temptation from your fridge/freezer/cupboards. Set a day that you're going to start with getting healthier and eat up all of the bad food by then. After all, you only live once and this shouldn't be a chore! We used up the last of some sweet goodies last night after dinner and all the while there was fruit in the fruit bowl. Today i have been reaching for the fruit to snack on without thinking twice about the sweet goodies we once used to have.

As for the exercise, there are hundreds of videos on YouTube, on a site called fitnessblender, and I'm sure there will be people here who will pop up and give you advice/ideas. Do you have a block where you live which you could easily squeeze in a brisk walk/jog around? I do and that's something I'm going to start doing as it will probably only take me about 15-20 minutes to do.

Lastly do not beat yourself up if you have a slip up! As i said before, you only live once and this shouldn't be a chore! If you are thinking of having treats, if you slip up, count that as your treat and don't have the treat at your scheduled treat time.

    Good luck! :)
