Has anyone seen my Motivation ? I've lost it.

Options
I'm overweight, started training for an IRONMAN doing really well, I don't lose from exercise alone so need to diet. When I diet I do really well, I planned to diet on return from my holiday in March but I was unwell, no motivation to diet or exercise, now 3 weeks and I am so struggling to do any exercise and I've actually put 4-5lbs on. I have a race in 9 weeks and I really need to find my motivation to get back on both. I know you lot will have words of wisdom so bring it on please.

Trouble is I go again in 17 days and with a mate who drinks every day :-(
Return then the weekend after a festival
June I have a sailing trip with a mate who is 30st and drinks daily
Then I come back and 5 days later I have the biggest race of my life.

Decide what your priorities are. Having mates who drink a lot sounds like a handy excuse to me.

Your motivation is at the track waiting for your butt to show up.

Follow your plan & your habits, not "motivation". It is fleeting.

Your motivation is being able to make it through your Ironman without gasping for breath and dying on the side of the highway. You can do this! As for the mate that drinks let him you choose water after maybe 1 drink and stick with it. If he cannot support you in that decision then maybe he isn't such a great mate after all!

I've developed a similar problem... "Uncle Google" wasn't much help (not much orginal/previously unknown there) but tried youtube this morning & found a few videos which may/may not be of use to you (obviously there are more but these were the ones I liked enough to make a note of - not in chronological rank of favourites, just the order I watched them)

    1. Tony Horton Fitness – “how to get motivated when you don’t feel like working out”
    2. Strength Camp – “motivation to work out (when you don’t feel like it)”
    3. Kute Blackman – “how to motivate yourself to exercise (even when you don’t feel like it)”
    4. Natalie Jill Fitness – “how to get & stay motivated”
    5. Mandie Mutchie - “how to work out when you don’t feel like exercising”
    6. Mario Tomic – “how to get motivated to exercise (emotional leverage + my personal motivation list)”
    7. Strength Camp – “motivation is *kitten* (this is what you need)”
    8. Elliot House – I’m lacking passion (why passion is *kitten*)”

Get up and do it , keep in a routine and make a plan, it won't kill you to fall off the wagon but really motivation is not even a little bit reliable but habits stick.
You'll only regret not doing a workout you rarely regret having a nap and Netflix binging
