Am I eating the right amount of calories?

I'm not sure what I should set my activity level at. My pedometer says I take about 6,000 steps on my normal days and up to 12,000 on the days I work (I walk to work). Right now I have my activity level set at sedentary, and I stop eating when my calorie balance is 0. The app does add "useable" calories when I walk. So I end up eating about ~1,700, to lose 1.5 pounds a week. I'm a 5'11" 19 year old female, trying to lose about 30 pounds. Does this seem right?

How tall are you and what is your age and gender? How much weight are you trying to lose? It is impossible to say if your calorie goal is good or not without that information. I wouldn't be able to lose 1.5 pounds per week on 1700 calories, but I'm a short, older woman who only needs to lose 15 pounds. If you are a 6 ft 25 year old male who needs to lose 100 pounds then that would be a whole different story.

If you only need to lose 30 pounds then 1.5 per week is really pretty aggressive. I looked at IIFYM.com. They show your TDEE to be 1958 so to lose 1 pound per week you would need 1458 calories. You would need 1208 to lose 1.5 which I personally think is too little for someone as tall as you. If you set it to lose .5 pound per week then 1708 would be your number and I personally think that would be the best. There are other TDEE calculators out there. Look around and find the one that seems to fit you best. Or just put your stats into mfp then you can just use that goal but be sure if you exercise to eat some of the exercise calories. TDEE takes exercise into account and mfp does not.
