My dietician calls me a yoyo I lost 60lbs total last year, only to gain 30lbs back. She has recommended this app to help me stay on track. My original goal was 7lbs a month, however I struggling to loss my normal 5lbs. I usually weigh in every 25 days and today I have learn I only lost 2lbs in 25 days. I am so depressed behind this is just so hard to do family outings, work 12hrs, then go home and workout. I have given up pork, soda, juice, and I'm trying to commit to working out daily. I'm open to any ideas to stay under 2,000 calories a day and ideas for after a long work day so I have the energy to workout.

2 pounds in 25 days is weight loss. Are you sure your expectations are realistic? You're losing at the rate of half a pound a week, which is awesome.

according to my doctor I should be at 5lbs at the end of each month. I have done it before with no problems, that's why I'm guessing this is so depressing to me. I'm thinking 5 days more probably won't have much more of a difference.

Have you actually been logging your foods and keeping track of what you're eating? Weighing your food? Did you put your information into MFP so that it gave you a set number of calories to eat per day, or did you just decide that 2,000 was the limit for yourself? Even if you can't exercise as much as you'd like, or at all, you'll still lose weight if you're eating at a deficit. The exercise is an assistant to weight loss and benefits your overall health, but it's not absolutely necessary. Eating at a deficit, however, is absolutely necessary for weight loss.

First, give yourself a break! Did you doctor want you to work out every day? You didn't say what you were doing prior to that. If you're trying to go from noting to everyday, that can be tough. Maybe start with a few days a week. Also, are logging everything? You say family outings? I know it can be hard. But if you prepare, you can do it. If it's restaurant, check the menu online first, pick what works within your goal. If it's a outdoor pot-luck, try to stay away from the food table. I have that problem, I'll graze all day if I don't make an effort to stay away from the table.

Just a few suggestions. Good luck!

You might find it easier to stay at your 2000 daily calories now that you are on here, especially if you weren't tracking your food before. You'll hear this alot on MFP but a food scale is your friend. Weigh, measure, and log everything you eat. Then you will have a true idea about how much you are eating. It will also make it easier to plan what you want to eat.

Many people on here will pre-log their meals. That doesn't work for me, but it might be worth a try for you. I pre-log snacks and treats when I'm going to be in a social situation like a family BBQ. It helps to have a game plan. Good luck.

I am logging everyday but may be off when I go out not everything is in the log, but I try to be accurate as possible. I do weight food when I meal prep for my work week.

I do workout much harder than I use to and I change it up a lot because I have plateau for 2 months before which is very discouraging.

First of all, welcome! This app and community is awesome. I've been around for nearly 4 years on and off and this is by far the best way I've found to stay on track.

Weight fluctuates from day-to-day, and loss is definitely not linear. Too much sodium one day can shoot up your weight 2-3 pounds 2 days later. The days leading up to your period or even your ovulation can spike water weight up 5-6 pounds. I'm sure your dietician knows that. Any loss over a month's time is spectacular.

I'll use myself as an example. I weigh myself every day now and take trends, so I expect up and down scale weights. But I'll just include a small sample.

April 10 (I started buckling down again this day, and ovulation is around this time): 220.
April 17: 219.6 (scale hardly moved at all that week)
April 19: 218 (finally going down!)
April 22/23: 216.8 (ooh yeah, hard workout those days!)
April 24: 222.8 (WTF!!!) That was after a weekend with 2 birthday parties and a movie night out. :D
April 28: 219.8 (period started today...probably also contributed to earlier weight gain!)
April 30: 216.2 (Happy birthday to me!)
May 1: 218.2 (Ok...probably shouldn't have celebrated with all those Mojitos! But yummy!)
May 5(today): 215.4 (nice workout last night!)

So you can see, lots of fluctuations depending on what I did and what is going on inside me that I can't control. Best advice I can give you is relax and take each month as it comes. Any loss is great. I'll reevaluate myself next week when the month is up and see if there is anything I can do to make it better. I hope you can look at it that way too. Weighing yourself today only shows a small snippet of what has been going on recently. The important thing is the overall picture.

Oh, and I forgot to add, the most important thing on this app (and in general of course!) is complete honesty. The only way you will see results is if you are honest with yourself. If you had a crazy day and just wanted to eat Oreos for dinner, fine! (What? I've never done that...) But log it as accurately as possible. And then eat an egg because you're gonna feel hungry in about an hour!

Mistakes happen. It's OK! But I find I learn from them much better when I log it and re-read what I logged. This app is just a tool to help you keep on track, but you can only get out of it what you put in.

Good luck, and have a wonderful day!

Thanks so much that was a much need, but I will admit weighting myself daily is scary not to mention I work day shift would probably screw up my mood LOL but I will keep that advice in mind. Next month will try the daily thing and see how it goes!!!
