Hi all

I've been trying to follow a healthier eating regime and noticed that my skin has become painfully dry and cracked, especially on my face. Could this be something I'm doing/not doing food wise?

how much water are you drinking? I used to have TERRIBLE elbows and ankles. Since I started drinking 12+ glasses of water a day, my elbows and ankles are baby soft. :-D

It could be due to dehydration or lack of healthy fats. I have to add ground flax seed to my diet or my skin gets dry and cracks - even in the summer since I've moved to a very dry climate. when it is really bad, I add a vitamin E softgel to my daily intake. It really helps. My favorite way to get the flax seed is on frozen berries as an evening snack, but it's also good on cereal, granola, yogurt, and can be mixed into just about anything.

Hmm. I am not a nutritionist. the first thing I looked at was your fat intake for today. It seems quite low.

But really, if it is concerning you, then I'd look at your intake and your goals. It might be that there's an imbalance of fats in your diet, or a lack of some nutritional needs. I'd talk to a nutritionist.

    Good luck.

If what you are logging is what you are actually eating you need to seriously look at your diet - you are eating too little - and not the right foods...... you need more fat for one thing, but you actually need a more balanced diet - and eat at least 1200 calories every day - and even more if you exercise.... Are you actually eating any vegetables, and maybe not logging them - if not you should as you need the nutrients...

With your diet I would also seriously look at some supplements - fish oil, evening primrose oil - but also a good multivitamin

Dry skin is one of the first signs of malnutrition, you might want to have a chat with your doctor / nutritionist

Thanks for the replies - my skin has definitely become worse since I moved to New Zealand... I suppose that and living on my own means I don't have the same motivation. I'll look at taking some supplements as a short term measure, and will also try the flax seeds and eat some more fats.

Water is my main problem as I find it difficult to drink a lot of it, as I don't tend to drink much in the day (I find it fills me up).

I don't have a doctor over here yet but will try to get registered somewhere.

    Thanks again

I see you list yourself in Piha - do you live there, or in the city? If you are in the city there are a lovely doctors practice in Queen Street - send me a mail if you want more information.

I'm actually now based at Albany on the North Shore, as I'm completing my PhD over here.

I'm guessing there will be doctors in Albany - I'll ask a my uni to see if there is a uni service. Thanks though!
