"Completely under control"

Blood pressure: aside from what she called "white coat syndrome", totally acceptable.

Cholesterol is just a bit elevated yet, but I'll take it!

Here are my A1C numbers from the past, while I was being treated with a litany of medications:

09/05/08
8.3

05/27/09
7.2

02/03/10
7.8

05/24/10
6.7

...and since I decided enough was enough and really buckled down, lost between 90 and 100 lbs total, and quit taking my meds against my Dr's recommendations last December:

06/21/11
5.4

Has it been easy?

Hell No!

Was it worth it?

Hell yes, words cannot describe how I'm feeling right now, and I'm not done yet.

I still plan on losing another 10-15 lbs and improving my strength and cardio a ton yet.

Life is good!

Later, off to get my *kitten* kicked by Shawn T in Insanity Upper Body! ;)

Anyone out there that has been diagnosed, you can beat it too.

I was the prototypical fast food lazy *kitten*, if I can do it, anyone can!

It does take a lot of resolve and it wasn't easy, but man if I could bottle the happiness I'm feeling right now I'd love to give some to everyone!

    Right on!
    I was originally doing 27 units of lantus/day and 17 of apidra/meal
    a1c was at 7.4... I think, I don't have dates on anything.
Got under control and dropped about 30 lbs on byetta, then couldn't afford it anymore and dropped 16lbs since startng MFP. My a1c last quarter was 6.3, this quarter 5.8.

Been doing HIIT and added circuit training and hopefully be off all meds by the end of summer!

I haven't gotten her to join yet, but I think her seeing me with my heart condition losing weight has helped her start to see it can be done in spite of the complications diabetes presents. She's got a lot more than me to lose though. I hope she can get in there!

Good luck to you in the future :)

Thanks Matt, but my success is to be shared by all.

Without my friends here to throw ideas off, to get insights from and to share ups and downs, the path would certainly not been as smooth.

I so look forward to you hitting your goal and being there to share in the celebration with you as well!

Very well done. Always excited to hear a success story where you do it on your own rather than relying on the meds. Proud of you.

My father relied on the meds and he passed away a few years ago at the ripe old age of just 66. :(

Just part of my motivation, diabetes does not have to be a death sentence, that's for sure.
