2 Years... 135 Pounds Lost

Today makes 2 years that I have been on a diet
A bit of a backstory regarding the diet is as follows:
The reason for the diet ... I was diagnosed as being a borderline diabetic (at that time... I had an a1c of 6.2 which is considered to be borderline for diabetes) ... My father is a diabetic so my Dr. was concerned that I could be as well ... So it was then that my Dr. suggested a 2,000 calories a day diet ... I was given a what to eat and what not to eat guide ... Which looked to be more confusing and troublesome that it was worth ... So I decided to just do the 2,000 calories ... I told myself that I would eat what I wanted ... I would just be sure to stay at or under 2,000 calories a day ... Otherwise I would probably end up driving myself crazy trying to follow the guide...
My Dr. told me to start the diet ... See how things go and to come back in 3 months for a follow up ...
The day I started my diet ... I weighed myself at home... Before having breakfast or anything else... At that time I weighed 370 pounds... I wore a 4XL-T (4xl-Tall) T-Shirt and a 48 in Jeans ...
I started the diet ... I made sure to eat what I wanted... but started keeping track of the calories... I continued on the diet and after 3 months... I went back to see my Dr. for the follow-up visit ... By then I had lost about 25 pounds ...
At that time... Bloodwork was done and the results came back showing that in those 3 months I had reversed my diagnosis to being out of risk (having an a1c of 5.4 which is considered normal and out of risk)... That in itself impressed my dr. and myself...
It was then that I decided to stay on the diet ...
A year later I went back to see my Dr. for another follow-up ... By then I had lost about 90 pounds ... Bloodwork was done once again ... Everything came back as perfect ... My Dr. told me that everything was Fantastic ... But that's not all ... It was at this time that my dr. took me off of my daily blood pressure pill that I had been taking for the past 8 years ... They said that it was actually doing more harm to me that it was helping... Due to the weight loss... My blood pressure was staying normal and the pill was lowering it too much...
After that... I have remained on my 2,000 Calories a Day diet...
I am happy to say that as of today ... I am at 235 (135 pounds lost) ... I am in a regular (non-Tall) XL shirt and I am close to a 34 in jeans (currently at 36) ...
I of course could not have accomplished this though without the help of my family... my friends... My Co-Workers & a really awesome APP that I use on my iPhone (MyFitnessPal) ... I also walk more at work... and I am working on switching to drinking water... Trying to cut out (or severely limit) my intake of soda...
Now ... With 2 years behind me... and 135 pounds gone... Its time to shift my focus into starting to work out more... Tone up... If I happen to gain weight after doing so... It will be more muscle weight... not fat weight...
Let's see what this next year will have in store for me... As the saying goes... The 3rd times the charm ... So we will see what happens after 3 years on my diet

This story gives me hope all of my bloodwork is fine except for the a1c being 6.2 and I too have been on blood pressure meds for about 4 years. My dr. Has placed me on a 1650 calorie diet and so far it's going well. It's nice to know someone else has done what I am trying to do. Thanks for posting.0 -
Very Cool story. My question is what is your goal weight? My story is similar so I won't go into it but like you I lost well over 100lbs. But the thing was once I reached my goal wieght and maintained that weight for more than a Year I got curious about what would it be like to loose even more weight. I started this Lifestyle at 287lbs. And my goal was 185lbs. I have since moved on to 177lbs. And I am not sure where it will stop but it feels great and my daily energy is always off the charts. My sleep patterns are great. I just wander have you felt that way at all??0
