Barre Workouts?

Hi,
I have recently picked up Exhale's Core Fusion Body Sculpt DVD. Has anyone done this DVD, or other barre workouts?
If so, did you lose inches or weight when you were already mildly overweight (or more overweight than that)?
Also, I have a history of weak knees. It's difficult to run for me. There is a section in the DVD in which they specifically tell you to lower your body, holding onto a chair, and "bring your knees over your feet," while on your tip toes. Is this safe? I thought one of the major causes of knee injuries was from doing that with lunges, but that's what they both tell you to do and show in the video.
Just in general, does anyone do Barre? What were your results?

I have almost all of the Exhale Core Fusion dvds. My favorite is Body Sculpt. While it is not much of calorie burner, it did tighten me up and I lost inches everywhere. One of the things I like best about it is that the better I get at positioning the better it works:)
I ,also, have bad knees. For the legs section I NEVER lower down very much. Instead of knees over toes I line my body in a squat form. Knees over ankles, rear back like I am sitting in a chair. Works just as well and my legs still get toned.
Enjoy the stretching at the end. The best part!1 -
I have a barreAmped dvd and have tried a few Tracy Anderson Mat Methods. I don't find them to be very cardiovascular. The part where you bend your knees over your toes is similar to a plie in ballet. As long as you are turning out from your hip, and not from your feet, and doing it slow and controlled, you should be ok. You might be able to strengthen your leg muscles enough that running would be less painful.0

I need a left total knee replacement. I exercise to put it off. I do barre once a week. I never have any problems with plie, but definitely turn out from the hip not the ankles. I turn out from the hips when I do barbell squats too. 115lbs today for 4 sets.
Barre definitely helped me get strong enough to get under a barbell and squat.0 -
