Gestational diabetes

Hi, I am 26 weeks pregnant and went for my 3 hour glucose test. Ended up not doing test cause my fasting was so high. There is a huge history of diabetes on both sides of my family. Tips, recipes would all be greatly appreciated.

I had gestational diabetes with mine. My doctor sent me to a little educational thing where they basically instructed me to eat about 15 g of carbs 6 times a day, checking sugar at intervals. She didn't put me on any drugs with it, just monitoring blood sugar. I was fine as long as I didn't eat a crazy amount of carbs/sugar in one sitting.

Your OB should have set you up with a dietician.

Hi, I also had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant. I actually ended up healthier for it by the end of my pregnancy so it wasn't all bad. I used my fitness pal app to log food and then check sugar / carb contents rather than calories. I found that helpful at first as I could identify how much sugar / carbs would raise my blood glucose levels. I ate eggs with tomatoes or bacon most mornings for breakfast and snacked on nuts when I wanted to although i mostly stuck to meals. I also found cooking meals from scratch reduced amounts of sugar and by increasing the protein amount I could also tolerate more carbs. E.g. Adding chickpeas and beans to chilli and curries. Fill up on loads of veg too. Just watch fruit I couldn't have much. Although apples were OK. Just keep checking your blood glucose levels that kept me on track. My dr told me to walk after breakfast as this was when my levels were harder to control, but as I got bigger I didn't really do this that much as it was uncomfortable and I worried about over doing it.
Good luck you have a wonderful motivator - your baby! Tbh when I was pregnant it was really the only I truely ate well. I have gorged trash food since my daughter was born and need to get back on track now.

Hi, I'm due in July and I have gestational diabetes. Sometimes you have to take insulin or medicine if your fasting is too high because that means glucose is being released from your liver while you sleep and isn't related to your diet during the day, but moreso hormones. My fasting is okay and most of my other numbers are okay. My problem is my after breakfast number. I guess my pancreas is slow to wake up, not sure what is up. I finally got it under control today by eating less than half the carbs my dietician told me I was allowed to eat and including protein. So thankful for this app to help me keep track of my carbs and protein!

I had gestational diabetes with my first and it hit at 14 weeks with my second! Just stick with clean fresh foods. The more processed, the harder time I have. I have been able to manage mine with diet and am 25 weeks now. I am on insulin before bed because my fastings are high and that can't be controlled with diet. It's def a process finding out which carbs work for you and which don't- not all carbs are equal!
