Weight gain whilst dieting.

I was wondering if anyone is having the same issues that I am having. Over the past year I have gone from 70kg to 63kg I was generally happy with my body weight and decided a couple of months ago to hire a personal trainer and start weight training. It's been over 6 weeks since I started and I have piled back on the weight and now back at 70kg I feel awful and don't understand how I am training so hard but actually gaining weight! I'm stuck with what to do and weather to keep up the gym it's helps with stress etc but body wise is making me look and feel awful! I don't feel I look asethetically any better, actually worse! I was aiming just to have a little more overall definition for summer but now I think I will be avoiding the beach!

I trained hard and gained weight too. I was in a calorie surplus. Have you been logging your food and staying in a deficit?

Are you eating below or at least at your maintenance?

Eating too much would be my guess. I've never found it difficult to gain weight while exercising hard.

Opening your diary may help pinpoint your issue.

You are eating in a surplus if you are gaining weight.

Agreed, would be better if we could see your diary to assist and know how well/accurately you're logging, plus how you're calculating your food intake (ie weighing, measuring etc) and how under/over/on point your calories you are at.

Thanks for the responses I have been logging what I have been eating whilst excercising as much as possible, I have definitely felt hungrier the more excercise I have been doing.. Is it worth cutting back calories a little more..

I stalled for a bit when I upped my workouts because I was so damn hungry I kept eating all the food.

    There's your answer!
Unfortunately weight training is a low calorie burner but seems to have a big effect on hunger signals.

I'd also like to point out this as well. There may be times that even though you think you're on target, with the added hunger signals you may be eating more than you realize.

Whats your calorie goal per day? Are you eating in a deficit? If you are eating back your exercise calories you are probably over estimating your calorie burn and eating too much. 7kgs in 6 weeks sounds like a lot of weight though. You would need to eat close to a 9000 calorie surplus over 6 weeks to gain 7kgs in fat!

You need to control how much you are eating. There is no amount of exercise that will make you look thinner if you are eating way more than you burn.
If in a few weeks you have gained 7 kilos, you are eating a lot more than you should.
