When to eat?

My brother was telling me the other day that when we sleep is when we burn up all the carbs left in our system from the day before and that it is important to go exercise first thing in the morning without eating anything first. This way he assures me I will only be burning fat and that it will really get my metabolism pumping. He says I will burn more fat calories this way than I would if I ate before I worked out. I am just curious what others think about this. I currently eat some oatmeal and then go swimming on most days and then eat protein when I get home.

I have heard this theory and my opinon is that if it works for you to do it, then do it but if you like to have your oatmeal before you swim then stick with doing it that way.l0

eat every 2 hours or so...keep protein up during day, and eat a little protein before bed...body has to work harder to utilize (metabolize) protein so your body burns cals while you sleep0

So are you saying I should eat before working out?0 -
I need to get back into the habit of working out, but when I did I'd eat a little greek yogurt before bed so I wasn't starving in the morning, go work out and then eat when I came home. Seemed to work for me, but we all know we're all different.0

I bet your oatmeal is fine. I read somewhere that it is actually better to eat before working out.... I don't remember wear of course. But do whatever works for you. Try skipping the oatmeal and see how you feel. If you have no energy for your workout, then add the oatmeal back in.0
