Bizarre NSV - Changing what my body likes

Many years ago I worked at a mall and, as a consequence, at food court food. It never bothered me. Right before I started MFP (in April) I ate at a typical Chinese food court. No problem.

I have been eating quite healthy since joining MFP. Flash forward to today. I was out running errands, one of which was in the mall. I was VERY hungry (you know, bad decision hungry) so I decided to grab some orange chicken from the food court. Right now, about 15 min. after eating, I feel like someone slipped me an influenza virus and punched me in the gut. I am working on making myself feel better and hoping my body doesn't just flat out reject this horrible substance which I have put in it.

Conclusion: My body has adapted to real food and food court "food" is now out of the diet completely. ...yay.... now excuse me while I go try and walk it off....

 and

That is awesome, well not that you feel like crap, but that you are so used to healthy food that your body said, "no way".

    Haha! Congrats!

If I make a bad food choice in the future, I hope my body feels the same way!

Good luck with your walk. :)

This totally happened to me the other day...I was practically begging for death and couldn't eat the rest of the day.
  • The same thing happened to me! I used to LOVE Waffle House--I know, shoot me--but after I started losing weight I went one night to get a patty melt and actually got sick to my stomach!

That's a HUGE victory! Some people battle food addictions their whole life, congrats on overcoming.
If I must eat something at the mall, Starbucks has (or had) veggies, salads, and fruit & yogurt.

That is awesome! (not the sick part of course) Hope you got over the sickness! In a similar vein, another great NSV is when you are really CRAVING something, but it's something like an apple or a banana, rather than chips or a brownie. It's like your body has actually learned what is good and bad for it.

I have the same problem if I eat anything fried. (which I used to Looooovvvveee) and now I feel sick to the stomach and it feels like there is an inch of grease stuck to my tongue. Lol. So it's not hard for me to resist anymore. Great NSV!

    Thanks for the support all!

This sick feeling really puts the final block in place for my "no processed food for the month of July" commitment. I want to feel healthy and happy about what I eat. My fiance and I decided that this coming month we are only eating real food that we make ourselves (or at least food that has 3 or less ingredients, all of which are food).

Here's to a healthy future. No more "Orange Chicken Sucker-punch." No more saying "Why does my skin feel greasy" after eating. No more having to wonder if I made the right choice!

I was going to mention the fact that my tongue feels greasy, but then I thought it might be weird and no one would know what I am talking about. Glad we are on the same page. :)

I have had the same experience - almost DIED after eating at Friendly's with my kids the other night. I think it's a good thing... keeps us on track!

I make a delish orange chicken - recipe is from a site called health-bent.com - basically it's the juice of 2 oranges plus some grated rind, simmer with 1/4 cup of tamari & some ground ginger until reduced by about half. Cook up about a pound of boneless chicken in a Tb of coconut oil, then add the orange sauce and throw some green onions in.

Yep! That's exactly why I don't eat fast food. The only thing I'll do is every once in a while I'll get a sandwich from Chick-fil-A. But...that usually ends poorly... When will I learn my lesson? LOL!!

Oh and soda! Geez, I hardly ever have soda b/c it makes my stomach feel terrible!

    Congrats (I guess..lol) on your NSV :)
