Why do photos post sideways?

I'm trying to post a photo but it seems to post rotated 90 degrees.
The photo was taken from my iPhone.

I have the same issue with my samsung s5, I am going to google information and see if I can find something that will help, I will let you know.0

OK...apparently the MFP forum is ignoring the orientation metadata.
The workaround is to take the photo with the phone held sideways (i.e. landscape) with the base of the phone on the right. That's for the iPhone anyway. Probably similar for other phones.0 -
Sorry to bring up an old topic, but I was just trying to figure it out myself. I came up with a solution. Take a screenshot of your photo. The screenshot will then upload facing the proper way. Hope this helps some people.1

Experienced the same issue and pulled up this thread. It also helps if you edit the image in photoshop and then save it as a different file.0
