The ads are based on your web browsing history. You must have clicked/went to a page that had something to do with some sort of cookies or sweets...

They are google ads and are not controlled by MFP. Essentially, google stalks you, figures out which tags are coming up most frequently for you (based on google search, stores you go to, etc..) and then puts in ads.

As others have said, ads are based on your search history, keywords, predictive algorithms, etc.
Also, I eat plenty of Milanos and managed to lose weight.

Ads are dictated by your discussions and searches.

This. My current ones are for furniture, the White Sox, and an OTC pain killer.

algorithms are used as per your discussions and search history to bring up ads which may be of interest to you. right now I'm looking at a verizon ad because I was just researching adding international minutes to my plan for when I'm on vacation.

    Thanks, now I want Milanos

Also, to add onto what everyone else has said (my current ads are for hotels in Tennessee because I just booked one), there's nothing wrong with eating a cookie or two in moderation. I know I can't give up sweets, so I work them into my goals.

Mostly Disney ads, here. And credit cards. I guess the two go hand-in-hand these days.

I have the amazon ads a lot too, and had some Vermont travel things. Now Dick's Sporting Goods.

My funniest one was when I searched for cricket flour at amazon due to a discussion here. I kept having ads for Larvets Original Worm Snacks appear for days. Would much rather have the cookie ones!

    Mmmmmm cookies.

Am I the only one not too annoyed by the ads (if they were popups...sure)? At least they're usually for something I'm interested in.

Or *was* interested in and have already bought so now they can go away. :)

Also.....the one showing now is for Best Buy.

I never get food ads. Your popups are tailored and related somehow to your search history and stuff. (Not sure exactly how).

I think the ads are funny--I enjoy seeing what I get. (Now Lasik, more sporting goods, and HBO is telling me about Game of Thrones.)

My ad is about home mortgages and cars today.
I usually don't notice them but sometimes they are funny.

I was hoping for a joke along the lines of "The Monster at the End of this Book." You know, like

Please do not scroll to the bottom of this page. Because there is a BAG OF COOKIES at the bottom of this page! So whatever you do, do not scroll.

YOU SCROLLED! You do not know what you are doing to me!
