I used to work at the hospital as a nursing assistant with Bariatric patients. It can go well. It's is vital that you ABSOLUTELY stick to the plan your surgeon, nutritionist, nurses, etc have laid out for you.
Take your vitamins - yes it will suck - you chose to have the surgery just do it.
Find a protein mix/drink that you like and fulfill your daily amount of protein EVERY DAY. Muscle Milk is good (not made with any milk/dairy). Sam's Club and Costco and the like sell decent ready to drink (RTD) shakes, try to get ones that are 30g of Protein or more per shake - Myoplex is a good one (42g)!!!
DRINK YOUR WATER DAILY. My ex-wife had the surgery and she wouldn't listen and would get dehydrated easily and would wind up in the hospital. Eventually she got ulcers from not listening. Alcohol is NOT your friend for a long time - if ever.
Know that you are making the best decision for you and stick to it. There will be hard moments. Don't even worry about food for the first month. DRINK YOU WATER, TAKE YOUR VITAMINS, GET YOUR PROTEIN INTAKE.
If you really really want food. I suggest that you make soup - Progresso, Campbell's, etc. - only low sodium.
Cook it as normal and strain it and drink the broth - it'll have all the flavor but won't be to chunky for you to eat/swallow.
Get a pill holder and put your vitamins for the day in each slot. Ask and notate what vitamins cannot be taken together - like calcium and iron; you take one in the AM and one in the PM.
Best wishes for you. I'm sure it'll all go fine. Look to the road ahead not to any issues you fell in that moment. That will make it all worth it. Look to your family for support, use forums and apps to remind you and track your intake - this one is great cause you can track everything in the app or online.1 -
I had WLS last year. Best thing I've ever done for myself. Its a lifestyle change like none other. Reach out to other WLS folks when you need encouragement - online or at WLS support groups. Congratulations for taking charge of your health. I wish you success and good health as you journey down this path.1

Congratulations! I had my surgery two years ago, and I would say my life is transformed. I can eat pretty well whatever I want now but of course the quantities are smaller. I make sure I get enough protein, never skip on my vitamins, and sip water all day. Here's a MFP group you may be interested.

With surgery only a few short weeks away, have you been put on a liquid diet?0 -
I start the liquid diet on Sunday. My only concern is I do have some lactose intolerance. I just picked some Carnation Breakfast Essential and noticed the first ingredient is dry milk. I'll see how that works. They recommended mixing with Lactaid milk or soy milk. I live in a small town in NE MN so I likely have to order on line for long term use. Tomorrow I am heading down to Duluth with my husband for med appts for him. We plan to do some shopping there including picking up protein powder to add to the Carnation mix.
Forgot to ask in my intro for advice on the protein shakes with lactose intolerance0 -
I suggest buying in small batches until you find the combo that works.
A tip to break the monotony; try blending with ice for a kind of smoothie. The meal replacements get old really fast. Stick with it honey; it is all worthwhile in the end.0 -
