here's what's working for me

I basically have the same story as many. Up into my twenties I was lean and athletic. Then I let life get to me. I still ate like I was an athlete but was sedentary. So here's what I do in short. After researching a long time I came up with a daily caloric goal of about 2000 Cal's per day. Find yours and stay with it. Once I start eating i don't want to stop. Food is an addiction for me. But after about a week I figured out how to recognize the feeling of hunger. Then I embraced it. I have a coffee at home in the morning. Either a protein shake for lunch or several apples. Then when I come home from work I still have 1400-1600 Cal's left to eat. I know this is against a lot of information out there. But it works. Your metabolism isn't going to change unless you fast for three days. I try and walk daily usually less than two miles and have one good cardio workout a week that lasts less than two hours. That has allowed this 50 year old body to lose weight at a nice pace. Main take away. Record everything you consume. I record my activity in another app. This one gives you more calories if you record it. My goal is to be 200 pounds so I eat the calories a 200 pound MAN for my age and height need. It's just that simple. If I have an off day I don't worry about it. I eat pretzels for snacks to get my crunch satisfied and so far ALL is working. Feel free to contact me about anything. Best wishes. Doug

Intermittent Fasting is the best! I wish I would have learned 10 years ago that breakfast wasn't the most important meal of the day! I've never been able to wait until dinner, but the idea of getting to eat 1,400 calories at once sounds fun! I might have to give it a try!

I lost 80 lbs in the past year by eating:

    250 calorie breakfast
    250 calorie lunch
the rest of my calories for dinner. That included most of the calories I earned doing 10-20,000 steps a day.

I ate whatever I wanted, within my calorie limit.

You don't have to eat breakfast.

I ate my big dinner less than an hour before bed.

Your body burns calories day and night. It's BS to think you need to eat at any particular time.

What works is what works for you. Best wishes.

A lot of the "information" out there is to confuse you so you will pay someone to "help" you, so CONGRATS on finding something that works for you!!

Personally I like to eat four square meals a day, but I do notice that my appetite increases when I eat, so I get that IF can work for lots of people. And it sounds so much cooler than "skipping breakfast" ;)

Glad to hear your plan is working for you OP.

Myself I have lost to my goal weight and then maintained at it without intermittent fasting or any other fasting and with a more even spread throughout day of my calorie intake.
    I am also over 50.
