Are there are foods you can eat that increase your metabolism ?

Somewhat, yes, but don't expect a big change in your weight loss as the change is minimal. Eating breakfast and increasing protein both help a little.

Regular exercise has the largest impact on raising your metabolism.

I think I will try that, thanks. I used to follow a Rosemary Conley plan which was based on 5 meals a day plus 2 power snacks. Since being on MFP I have been having 3 meals a day. Time for a change i think

I hear this all the time, but have yet to find anything that proves it. It makes no difference how many or how few meals you eat in a day in terms of metabolism. If you eat a bunch of small meals, you get a bunch of small short lasting rises in your metabolism. When you eat a few large meals you get a large longer lasting rise in your metabolism. When those are all calculated together for the day the amount of metabolic increase from either method is exactly the same. I can reference the studies if you like.

Oh, any food that raises your metabolism more than just the thermic effect of food such as hot peppers will only produce very small increases, and will eventually bring less and less of an effect.

Yea, that's why I said 'very briefly' and 'minute'. :) heh

I figured that, but thought I would expand on that a bit. Either way I like hot peppers and lots of them

IDK... I know when I use to eat one meal or so a day, I never lost weight and use to go to the bathroom less frequently.. Now that I eat the right foods and more of it I lost 40+ pounds in a few months and go to bathroom 1-2 times a day.

Also good foods to speed up metabolism are...

The first 3 I know to be good for metabolism, as for Oatmeal and Bananas I don't know.

**Grapefruit - This citrus fruit has the amazing ability to block the amount of insulin absorbed in the body for as long as 2 hours after a meal. Try eating half a grapefruit before each meal. The Vitamin C also helps to release trapped fat and toxins in the body.

**Chili Pepper - This hot spice is available in many forms and can boost your metabolism by almost 50% for up to an hour after you eat it. Hot pepper generates large amounts of body heat and the body burns calories trying to cool down. If you enjoy hot and spicy dishes, then this natural metabolism booster is right up your alley.

**Green Tea - While technically not a food you can eat, this ancient drink contains antioxidants and polyphenols that have been clinically proven to speed metabolism and increase the fat burning process by as much as 10% for those people who drink 3-4 cups each day.

Oatmeal - Not only does oatmeal have the ability to lower cholesterol, but it slows the release of glucose into the bloodstream which can help keep the metabolism raised. It's high in fiber and contains antioxidants which help improve the body's fat burning process.

Bananas - This tropical fruit is rich in potassium which plays a key role in the metabolic process. Under ripe bananas are best since they are loaded with resistant starch. Slice a banana up in your oatmeal for a double metabolic boost.
