Going for the plunge and trying to make it stick this time!

Hi everyone! :)

My name is Steph. I'm 29, hoping to lose about 40LBS, and tone up. More importantly, I'd really like to change my eating and exercising habits to keep it off in the long run. This is extremely important to me because I am at high risk for developing diabetes. My mother was diagnosed with Type 1 when she was a teenager, and my father has recently been diagnosed with Type 2.

I've been struggling with my weight all my life. At this particular point in time, I'm straddling a fine line between being obese and overweight. (BMI is 29.9!) A sedentary lifestyle definitely contributed to this, but I'm sure that poor eating habits also played a part in my fluctuating weight over the years. As a teenager, my mother often put me on extremely low calorie diets (i.e. cabbage soup for 2 straight months, the celery diet).

This time around, I'm going to lose the weight properly. I'm going to take it slow, avoid starving myself, and more importantly, I'm not going to stress as much about losing the most amount of weight in the shortest amount of time. I've only been using this site for a few days or so, but I've been checking out the forums and reading some of your inspirational stories. I know that I'm going to succeed this time around, and I wish you all the best with your fitness goals!

You're in the right place! :) A slow loss really is best. It develops good habits, and creates a whole new lifestyle. Good for you for getting back on track! :)

Steph -- Good for you!!! The first step is always the hardest... and that is realizing you need to change your lifestyle, and it's going to be a continuous journey. Like you, I've struggled with my weight most of my life and I realized that I needed to make a long term change... that a strict, short-term diet was not the way to go.

Take it slow... do it the right way, and... it will pay off in the end. Don't get discouraged. I started my journey in March, and I've lost 33lbs so far just by eating more healthy and moving. I've still got 50lbs to go, but... I work toward that goal every day. You can too!!!

    Good luck!!!!!

Good luck to you! We can do this together! My ultimate goal is to get to about 145-150, but right now I want to get healthier. I have small and large goals that are posted on my bathroom mirror. Small goal (daily): write down everything that passes my lips. No judgement. Large goal: lose 5-8 lbs in July...REWARD: NEW SUNDRESS and possibly some shoes!
