Get busy with unexpected unplanned for events that have you eating out every meal and even though you made good choices maybe you couldn't get your exercise in so now you are over calories. Maybe that happens 2 - 3 days in a row. But you reign it in for a day and then exciting things happen (like a job interview or a family member moving back home) and you're so busy in getting things ready that you swing the other way and aren't even hungry at all so the next 2-3 days are way under your daily calorie goal.

I'm a planner so I usually have a plan but these events popped up so quickly didn't have time to plan.

Has anyone been there done that? What's your plan?

I log everything, and just look at the weekly average.

This happens to me all the time. My husband's days off can be brutal because he always wants to take me on a date (which is great, don't get me wrong) but that always adds up calorie-wise. I've learned to research the restaurant and choose my meal before I even get there. The worst is when I choose my meal and have my calories under control and he changes the restaurant at the last minute. So frustrating.

The days that we don't do that I make sure I'm way under calories. I can't say this is the best way to do it and it doesn't always work for me. My weight loss has been slow-to-non-existent lately and I think this is the reason why.

It's something I need to work on.

This has happened to me before. I simply made the best meal/snack etc... choices along the way. And if it ended up in a mess, its only a day or two so I let it go and said life is too short to stress over this. I just made sure to get back on track as soon as possible.

I have been doing this for awhile. I plan food and prelog my day but I also know what items fit my goals pretty well so if things change it is easier to make changes that still fit. I tend to eat the same amount of calories for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks so I know to look for a 200 calorie breakfast, 500 calorie dinner, etc. I know the items from local restaurants that I usually choose that fit my goals because I have spent time looking things up.
I make an effort to walk briskly right away in the morning for 30 minutes. I find if I do that my activity level for the day is usually better.

I think this is normal for a lot of us. That's why we learn new lifestyle habits so that we can adjust and adapt when situations change. A common mistake when starting to get healthier and lose weight is the "all or nothing" mindset and expecting each day to be perfect and exactly the same. The better you are at averaging out your calories for the week and looking at the big picture the better chance you'll have at success.
