Steps counted & Adding Cardio

Hi guys! New to using MFP kind of and had a question about logging my walks.
I know it counts my steps for me when I carry my phone which I love, but am I supposed to log in my walk (Exercise, Cardio, Walking Mod. Pace then put in the time) also? It does not change my step count, but it does change my calories burned...it bumps it up when I add my walks...
Is this not the correct way to do it? I don't want to think I've burned more than what I have! Any help would be great! I only use MFP to track everything right now, so I rely on it solely!

I don't add my walks because my phone is already tracking it. Any other workout I will. I was at first but I think it then calculates twice the amount of calories.2

If it doesn't get my heart rate up to at least 110, I don't count it.
Meaning that if I walk a mile in the mall...No, A mile on the treadmill at 3mph or better, Yes1
