Body Bugg vs Fitbit

I am considering purchasing one or the other & just wanted to get some thoughts from people who may have used either one or maybe both. I am kind of leaning towards the body bugg, but Dr Oz recommends the fitbit, so I'd like to get some input from the MFP community... what is so funny, as I am typing this, there is an ad for the fitbit on the top banner!!

I don't know much about the fitbit, but I know that with the body bugg you have to pay for the web software to even utilize the equipment. I personally have the Polar FT7 watch and I love it. It does exactly what I need it to.0

ok, i have to say... CREEPY about the ad banners.... they are there depending on what you look up online. It is really starting to creep me out
another thing to consider is that I've found that Dr. Oz will recommend the product that someone is giving him to promote.... it doesn't make it better or worse than another. He said the "gruve" was really good a while back and I bought it...yah, not that great. I wish I had good advice for you....If it was me, ive always wanted to try the bodybugg

I had a bodybugg (by Bodymedia) for about 3 months and I will tell you I didn't lose any more weight with it then I did without it. The only thing it really did for me was create a VISUAL reminder to make healthier food choices -with that said, I had to pay for the software to use it as well and remembering to upload the information from it....it was a hassle sometimes too. I have never heard of the fitbit so I cannot speak on it. If your just looking to track calories burned during workouts...others have suggested getting and HRM. Polar FT4 I have heard it good. I may purchase one of those as well. :-) Hope this helps.0 -
I have a fitbit. I wear it all the time. I think it is a good complement to a heart monitor. I use my polar when I'm exercising to be as accurate (as possible) with my exercise calories. It is small and unobtrusive which I like. Though as I read on one review and I think to myself when ever I remove it, "you will lose this thing". I haven't lost mine but it reminds me to always put it back on when changing clothes or whatever.
I think it helps to give an idea of how active you are when not actually exercising. I learned I'm not as active at work as I thought I was even though I am walking a lot. I am standing a lot also and that shows up as sedentary time.
I like that it uploads automatically when I'm proximity to the charger, so I just go to the website a minute after I sit at my computer and see the update.
I only put it on the charger once a week so I'm happy with the battery life. I like the tracking it does on the fitbit website. You can use it to track your sleep patterns if you want. I don't every night but it is interesting to see how often (or not) that I move around while sleeping.
I haven't really used it to track calories since I'm using the MFP numbers then just tracking my exercise with the polar. I just like to see the number of steps, distance and activity level graph.

It's called targeted advertising, and ad companies actually request website cookie data from your browser, which basically tells a ad provider everything that you have looked at and where you have been.
You can actually disable whether your browser will share what you have been looking at. If you use Firefox, check out this addon link to block em.

I don't know about "Fitbit," but I have a bodybugg and I love it. Here are a few things to consider though...
* Included with the purchase of a bugg, you get free access to the website for 6 months. After that, it's about $10/month.
* In my opinion, 90% the functions on the website are useless. They have a calorie intake tracker, but their database sucks and entering food into the database can be frustrating unless you have ALL the nutritional info of the food you're entering on hand. Obviously, I use MFP to track my calories. It's so much easier.
* Since the bugg site and MFP use different math to calculate calories in and out, you'll have to make adjustments to use both.
* In the 9 weeks I've had my Bugg, I've lost over 20lbs. I personally think the cost is worth it, even though their site is practically useless. A bodybugg makes you "self aware" of the calories you burn everyday. Sure, you could get a heart rate monitor, but you won't want to wear it 24/7 like you can with a bugg.
* The BodyBugg is the brand name 24Fitness uses to market technology made by a company called BodyMedia. BodyMedia also has a version of the same device (Body Media FIT) with some different options/features. I've been talking to them on Twitter and they gave me this link to show the difference between the two devices: http://bit.ly/9djIVe The costs are a little different as well, so you'll have to decide what works best for you. They also told me that their food database is different than bodybuggs... maybe it's better? I don't know, but I doubt it's better than MFP.
Do your research and find what works best for your body, your goals and your budget. Definitely search here and on Google for endless dialogue on this topic. Good luck!0 -
