Hi all

Quick question....anyone know of any strength arm exercises you can do with a fractured finger?

Thanks

Lay off the basketball for a few weeks. Which finger and knuckle broke? By the way, _MistahJ_ just saved you cost of a co-pay.

Depending on which finger it is - pretty much anything.

I agree with others here. Tape it for stability and use a lifting strap if needed. I would say you're limited by pain.

OK that's what I would do. The disclaimer of course is we don't know the type of fracture, which finger, any other hand or wrist injuries, etc. So ultimately you have to go with your gut here and don't listen to us! Feel better soon.

It's the bone at the top and the joint so it does hurt to grip. It is already strapped to the middle finger (it's the 4th finger injured). I will probably grin and bare it next week but if anyone has an idea of some non hand based ones it might help

Triceps: dips, diamond pushups, cable press.

Biceps are tougher because it's a pull, which usually requires a grip. All I can think of right now is either using bands with some kind of wrist cuff, or perhaps curls where you could put your good hand on the bar and your bad hand over the good one. Grip with your good hand only but use both arms to lift. Maybe use a kettle bell for this.

These solutions aren't pretty but I can't think of other ways to pull without gripping. I still say try a weight strap. It might really help!

    Someone broke my finger:

The loose bit had to be pushed down and held in place with a perfectly straight finger for 6 weeks. It stung a little. ;)

Anyway, I was restricted to using kettlebells. I basically had to cup a KB for stuff like shoulder presses. Dangerous but doable as you don't have any grip on the damned thing.

I wasted an hour of my life going to the Doctor with mine...

"Doc, I think I've broken my finger."
Yes I'm pretty certain you have.
    "What should I do?"
    Whatever you like.
"Should I tape it to the next finger?"
If that makes it more comfortable.
"Thanks for all your help. Your advice was invaluable."
    Next patient please.

    PS
Would make a difference if it was an unstable fracture of course.
