How to measure veggies

Tonight I would like to have some asparagus but I have no clue how to measure bigger vegtables. Would I just cut them up and put them in a measuring cup? Lol Thank you in advance.

Get a digital kitchen scale, they're cheap and easier to use than a measuring cup.

This is one reason weighing your portions is better! Because the size and shape of the food, along with how much you pack it down into the measuring cup, will affect the outcome. You can get a decent digital food scale on Amazon or in Walmart for @ $15, but it is worth it's weight in gold :)

    Yeah, food scale is best.

Until the battery dies then I'm like

Most of the time though I don't even bother counting vegetables. Unless I'm eating potatoes or something similar.

I generally like a ruler- make sure I'm getting the full 8" out of my cucumber and such. No one likes a short cucumber.

    otherwise.
    a food scale.

    Another vote for scale.

But in the meantime, plain asparagus is so low in calories you'd be fine with a wild guess.

    You could guess.
I just had much more than half a pound of veggies and it was only 77 calories.
If you guess wrong, it's really no big deal.

When I had asparagus recently, I found a food database listing that stated the serving size was '4 spears'. Good enough.

With veggies you're pretty good to guess. With fruit, definitely weigh it.

Just a token of advice, I first bought a cheap scale and now I wish I had forked over the 50 for a good one. Being able to see the screen, high weight maximum, and the fact that it stays active for 6 mins (so it doesn't turn off between items). It's so much easier. I had nightly arguments with the old one and now that it's easy I do a much better job.
