Hello to everyone,

I recently started a Zumba class at a local gym and I was wondering if anyone knew a good way to figure out how many calories you burn within 60 monutes of intense Zumba?

you can use that but if you are not sweating then it is not actuate or if you are crazy sweating you may have burned more. :)

Unfortunately, Zumba can burn a real variety of calorie levels. I've done Zumba for 9 months now under the instruction of 3 different teachers and their intensity levels are VERY different. I would suggenst getting a HRM watch. I am using a friend's ad she got it at walmart for around $40. Target also carries them. It's really the only way to accurately know what you're burning.

I usually average about 550-650 depending on which routines we end up doing. I wear a HRM to track it though. My teacher says people can burn between 500-1000.

    Best wishes! :flowerforyou:

thanks for that zumba website, I have been miscalculating it for a while, cause according to that site I burn around 660 calories and the mid level and I usually put it as 350-400
    WOOHOOO
  • I've burned anywhere from 500-1300 calories, but I was pretty big when I started. A HRM is your best bet.

One of my Zumba classes is a very high intensity jumping all-out sweating class. I log that one as high impact aerobics. If I was to do one of the Zumba videos (which I don't anymore, boring and not much of a workout) I'd probably log it as low impact.

I agree, get a HRM watch. I have one and am so glad that I can see how much I am burning per workout. I take many zumba classes and all instructors are different which factors to how many calories you are burning. Another close exercise to Zumba in the database is Aerobics, high impact. I checked it to my HRM readings and it's very similar. I hope this helps.

Also I don't think sweat depends on how much you burn. I honestly don't sweat a ton when I am working out but that doesn't mean I am slacking! I work myself hard during workouts to get the most out of them.

How much you burn depends on your weight. As I've lost weight, the number of calories MFP gives me has gone down for my 1 hour of high impact aerobics. When I do an hour of martial arts, I might get 400 cals for it. When my husband does it, he'll get around 600 calories for 1/2 hr! Not fair... :)

Wow thanks for all the responses. I didn't even know what an HRm watch was until I looked it up because you guys mentioned it. Thanks! Does the watch actually tell you how many calories you burn?

I never really sweat maybe a little on my forehead but never soaked in sweat, even though I am busting my butt I have never really been a sweater but I still burn the same amount of calories.
