Lose 2lbs or 1lb per week?

I've been using MFP since October and have always had it set to lose 2lbs/week. I have seen a lot of users recommending people set it to 1lb/week unless they have a lot to lose. However, I've been doing fine at 2 lbs and my weight loss has been slowing as I get closer to my goal anyway. What would be the benefit of slowing it further?

Without knowing anything about your stats or goals, the advantages of losing weight slower are having more calories to eat each day (which feels awesome) and it can help preserve your muscle. 2 pounds a week can be a great goal for people who are heavier, but maintaining a high deficit as you approach a healthy weight can be hard physically and mentally.

i just started in my weight loss journey and i have lost 4 pounds since sunday. that is not going to stay true. i probably had some water weight and of course, the heavier you are, the more you lose up front. those last pounds are the hard ones. i wouldn't worry too much about 1 vs 2 pounds per week and just concentrate more on a healthy diet and exercise program.

You get to eat more and it's easier. I did read recently that losing weight fast isn't necessarily less permanent/long-lasting than slower weight loss though, which runs contrary to a lot of popular opinion.

Thanks for your replies. I think I'll just stick to what I've been doing for now and switch it up if I start to get frustrated/it gets too difficult.
