Hello MFP! I've recently lengthened my workout durations and up'ed the intensity as well. I was just curious as to how you all cool down post workout and for how long? Do you eat anything after a good workout?

What's your cool down routine???

Thanks,

Russ

I do a lower intensity version of what ever i'm dong for about 3 minutes, then I do some deep breaths in and out, incorporating my hands, then i walk to my car. Which helps lower my HR too. But my HR drops about 30bpm within the first minute or so, so it doesn't take me long.

I do much as Jenn said, 3-5 minutes of a lower intensity - then I re-do my stretching (not static ones though) - then I'll usually do a couple of lower end weights (forearms, calves, etc.) and then walk to the car :)

I walk on the treadmill for about 5-10 minutes at a slow pace and stretch. My trainer put me in that habit.

Just take it down a few notches for a few minutes, walk around doing ballistic stretches and taking deep breathes. Protein is really good after an intense workout. I personally use P90X Results and Recovery

I figure walking home is pretty much cooling down.
Machines still tell me to do their own cool down though :P.

Also I read an article where these people put a group of exercise naive people on exercise programs one with warmup and cooldowns and one without and it made no difference for *them* (but when they got people used to doing warmups and cooldowns to try it it increased their risk of injury and basically... it comes down to what is your body used to).

I thought I was the only one.. ROFLMAO.

If I'm running, I just walk for another 5-7 minutes to let my heartrate drop, then drink some water and whatnot.

Say after 30-45 minutes of elliptical, I do 3-5 minutes of low-resistance, low-intensity elliptical, drink a little water, stretch a little.
