Insulin and Blood Sugar Tracking for Diabetics?

I've been utilizing the program for a week now and really like having this metric. Having been an insulin dependent diabetic for 40+ years I was hoping to find a program like this that I could also use to track my insulin intake and blood sugars in comparison to my calorie and carb intake. Seems like that would be a wonderful feature that wouldn't take a lot to add. There are a lot of diabetics out there and we don't get too much attention because it takes years for it to kill us, But, we do die from some complication of it at some point. To boot, living with it is a struggle. There are wonderful tools developed all of the time to help us and MFP, with this added feature, would be another IMHO. Any chance developers?

That would be great. I use an android program on my tab and phone to track, but it would be great if there were a glucoce tracker on MFP, one that allowed for notes so we could include carbs/meals and see those connections.

Edited to say that I didn't get the app from this site--I got it through my android marketplace on my devices.0 -
Here! Here! I have been looking for a web based tracker. I would love it. There more data I can look at in the same place, the better!0

I agree, that would be an excellent feature. I've been married to a diabetic for 20 years, and it is definitely a big struggle to keep on top of it. It's a nasty disease that takes a lot out of you (and your family). I'd love to see this added, maybe then I could get my hubby to join!0

whats the android program you use?0

I would like to see the Estimated Glycemic Load tracked as well as the Inflammation Factor. Both are available for the same foods that are on here, at http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/fruits-and-fruit-juices/2064/2.0

It's not fancy, and because it's free, there's the little ad up top, but it works, gives me averages, I can take notes, and it gives me graphs and the like: http://www.appbrain.com/app/sugar-log/com.dafer45.sugarlog.free

Agreed! And yes, my own mother passed away due to complications of her diabeties a year ago last March.
Great idea!

Good idea. I don't have diabetes but my father and grandmother do so I think it would be great to add this feature. It would also be great to have a simple indication on some foods as to whether they are low, medium or high GI (Glyceamic Index) as well for those that try to follow this.0

For the general population, I would like to point out there is a huge difference between those of us with Type 1 and those who have Type 2 diabetes! I hate being classed with the Type 2 group! From my stand point, Type 2 is often self induced and literally if one wants, they can make enough changes in their lifestyle to negate the Type 2 all together. Us Type 1 are stuck with it threw no fault of our own.0

I'm Type 2 and although I haven't battled this for my entire life, nor am I insulin dependant, it's been a struggle to deal with this and alter my lifestyle to beat this disease.
MFP has been a tremendous help in reducing my daily sugar intake to the point that my A1C is FINALLY in a normal range. I’m hoping that my diabetes will go into remission once I get my weight down another 5 or 10 pounds.
But I also agree that additional info about the foods glycemic index and other tracking methods would be a fantastic enhancement to this great tool.0 -

In my case, it was a matter of when, not if. My mother (not overweight), my sister (overweight and insulin dependent), my uncle (not overweight and insulin dependent), my grandfather (not overweight), my aunt (not overweight and insuline dependent)--my whole family is (or, sadly, was) type II, and it was a given that I would be, too. Rather than blaming folks or holding type I up as somehow better or more deserving of sympathy or respect, why not just sympathize with folks regardless of type and try to be helpful? Surely you have worthwhile information and advice, right?
You hate being classed with the type II group? I hate being told I'm somehow less worthy of respect or sympathy because my diabetes isn't the kind that deserves those things. And considering how many type 1 diabetics make their conditions so much worse through their own issues with diet and exercise, it hardly seems fair to point fingers at one type of diabetic for a lack of self control without acknowledging that both types are affected by weight and fitness concerns.

Kris, just pointing out a huge difference. Many in my family had Type 2. Just hate everything being called diabetes. two entirely different diseases. Secondly, never did I say it was because people were overweight. Its simply your body not producing enough insulin to handle the carbs consumed. people with Type 2 often seem to have complications very fast compared to type 1 because of their refusal (in general) to change from a lifestyle they have had forever.
never said anything about people being overweight so throwing that in with your family is unnecessary.
1 vs 2 is comparing apples to oranges, yeah they are both fruits, but not that similar in taste.
Again, in general, most people with type 2, are big lazy toads. There is an epidemic in the US, not sure about the world, with kids now getting type 2 because of being video game and tv supervised and drinking and eating anything they want.0 -
The disease is so hard to define and it's causes are so diverse, but it's a struggle no matter when you get it or what type of treatment you are inflicted with to stay healthy.
It doesn't look like this suggestion has gotten the attention of the developers so far, which is unfortunate. I've decided it's too important to have this feature to try to work around it on this site, so I'm going to see if I can find a suitable solution from another source. I was really hoping they would listen because I am impressed with the food/exercise functionality of this site. It's just missing a big piece of the puzzle for me.0 -
I was recently diagnosied with Type 2 diabbetic, and I was just trying to find a website to track my sugar levals. I think it would be great if MFP could add this to the program. Currently I'm having to write my numbers down, but it would be better if I could just add them to MFP through my phone. One less thing to carry.0

I use a free sugar-tracking app on my android device. Keeps track of numbers, trends, etc. Not fancy, but it works. I'll bet there's something like that online, too.

I've no experience with these, but they may be of some help:

I put that on my android phone, and it's working out great.0

I tried the app on my android phone, but started using up too much memory on my phone so I had to delete the app. I think it would be great if MFP could add a blood sugar tracker. This way I could have it in a graph report form to take with me to my DR's visits.0
