Advantages of Weight Loss List

I wanted to share something that has been helpful for me in maintaining focus and motivation in my weight loss journey. I have The Beck Diet Solution book and find it very helpful. One of the first things she has you do is create a list of the advantages of weight loss (Click here to read her description of what goes in it) and I have been reading this every morning for the past five months (Here's Beck's discussion of how to get in the habit of reading it), and I find that reminding myself every morning first thing of why it's important to me to continue focusing on my health and working on my weight is pretty motivating.
Here's part of my list of Advantages of Weight Loss for me, though they will vary by person:
I'm upholding a commitment to myself to take care of my health
- I'm energized and happier when in control of eating
- I feel it's good to use food as fuel
- Able to run faster
- Feel great!
- Look better at events and parties
- I had my genes tested and I have have 65% odds of obesity at some point in my life if I don't take responsibility
- Look and feel younger and attractive as I age
- Get rid of poochy belly and fat rolls, which I hate
- I will feel strong and effective for accomplishing a goal
- Be a good role model for kids
- Eating lightly makes me feel good
- Be healthy when I'm old
- Live a long time
- Less risk of heart disease (my mother had heart disease by the time she was 50)
- I'll feel as if I've accomplished something important
- I'll have more energy
- I'll be less at risk for diabetes
- I'll get more compliments
- I'll feel better in a bathing suit
- I'll enjoy trying on clothes more
- I'll feel happier when I look in the mirror
- I'll fit into more fashionable clothing
- I'll have more confidence
- As I age, it's only harder to maintain health or weight so I need to get a handle on it now
