Weighing food - I'm so confused

The Doritos bag says eleven chips for sn ounce. When I weigh it, and reweigh it, it looks like a good bit more than that. When I weighed ice cream today, trying to get 130 grams or a cup, it started to look like more than a cup and I'd only weighed it to about 100 g. Could my ice cream be lighter because it was hard from the freezer? Is my scale broken? I dont want to overeat.

Why would ice cream be lighter if it was harder? Just go by the scale

Ignore, cups, number of chips etc, go by the grams. For example: if it says one serve is 15 chips (30g) for 150 cals (numbers chosen at random by me to illustrate point), weigh out 30g and that's your serve, ie your 150 calories. Same goes for the icecream or anything else.

The best thing to do is weigh things in grams, as you have observed cups, spoons, numbers of items can vary a lot and you might end up eating more calories than you think.(or less, but it usually works out to be more). Except liquids of course which you can measure in mls for the best accuracy.

This is why weighing is so important. You're doing it right, weigh the food and count the calories.

The "15 chips" or "1 cup" is usually an ESTIMATE. It could be 17 chips, or 14 chips. What if the chips are all partially broken? Then what? LOL. You weigh out the grams. You weigh out 130 grams of ice cream. Use the estimates when you are somewhere and you don't have a scale but be aware that it's not a guarantee of the number of calories. When I have to "guesstimate" on the calories consumed I will make sure I leave a buffer of at least 50 - 100 calories so I don't accidentally go over.

I have never weighed my food. I guesstimate it. If had to weigh my food there's no way I would diet. 27 to my goal !

Go by the scale as its more accurate. I would only go by cups of I wasn't able to weight my food.

I find it super easy (particularly since one scale effectively replaces most uses of my entire set of measuring cups).

I pre-log what I am going to eat in advance, I put the plate on the scale, and I add the portions I already logged. Then I eat it.
